Is this too cheap?
« on: October 29, 2008, 04:49:22 pm »
Hi all.
I've been quoted £400 by a professional carpet cleaner to clean the carpets in a school that we clean. The measurements are approimately 250 square metres. I have no idea of carpet cleaning pricing as I only clean buildings. Can anyone advise me if this is a reasonable price? I was expecting it to be a bit more in reality.
Thanks in advance

The price you pay means nothing without comparing it to the service you get!  If they do a great job you've got yourself great value for money.  If they splash n dash it you've come a cropper.  Have you not contacted one or two other firms for quotes?

I wouldn't say that price is especially low, it's a day's work for 1 person and a portable on a school job where you've got big open areas to fire at.

If it's a 2-man truckmount setup doing the work, they'll probably knock it out in half a day or maybe less.

i'd of done it for £450 as long as the room was empty £550 with furniture to move, and i'd of done an excellent job with no cutting corners, about 4 and a half hours work with an rx20, 5 and a half with furniture removal and replacing. that includes drying as well.

What else are they saying apart from price.  Guarantees, trade associations, prev customers, training, insurance, years trading etc.  All will be a good indicator.  Otherwise get them to do a demo say 100sqft and judge for yourself.

Price is average for the size and average condition.  4-5 hours with a TM.

PS. £700 lol.  Do you do any commercial?????????????????????

I've yet to come across any school who expects complete chewing gum removal.
when it's crushed into the bitumen backing, it is almost impossible to remove, without causing
extra damage. All my quotes are told this and all accept it.
Always priced at 1.90 a metre. Touch wood never failed to get any school i've quoted for.
I expect to earn on this £600 a day. my largest regular takes me 8 days flat out with a portie.

point raised by Dr Carpet is important. Gum and old engrained blu tac can take ages and makes the job a nightmare.

I charge £3 sq m commercially and they bite my hand off.
I do different bits of a large civil engineering firm's office blocks regularly and the office manager just says to arrange a time and get it done and invoice them.
No quote required as I know your charges are reasonable are her words.
It's all offices and corridors and I measure and price the whole office not just the actual area cleaned.

We have on here Carpet Cleaners who are such good Sales people they charhe domestic prices for Commercial

My personal view is that price is Competitive but the guy will extract gallons of black water so in reality double  should be charged if not treble.
