hi guys
        head of local school has asked for a quote to clean all external windows,aprox 200,this will be largest building i have done so haveing a little trouble comeing up the quote,i thought around £100 seemed a fair price,or am i expecting too much,i dont want to frighten them off.  :

Depends on size of windows and difficulty of reach.

If they're straightforward two panes per window I'd say about £140.

If they're filthy and you're not desperate for it I'd say £170 at least.

He won't get it done cheaper, no way.

Cheers roger,i will take your advice and put in a quote for £140,not many wfp window cleaners around here,and its quite a tall school,i wouldnt want to do it with a ladder,so i think you are right that i ask a little more. thanks

I always approach it by speaking on the phone (or calling in person) on the pretext of wanting another look. I then have a look round again to make sure I missed nothing, go and find the person and then say that I don't want to quote to high or to low and how does £XXX sound?

Usually, you can judge whether the person is happy or in a state of shock or just a bit suprised.

That's why I tend to quote a bit high because you can always lower the price a bit.

Then I say, if they agree to the price, that the written quote will be in the post that evening.

If you don't really need the work and you know you haven't a lot of competition;

ask for £250.00.

You never know, you might get the job.  If you don't - does it matter?

My thing is: Is it a one-off job or maintenance?  If you get to clean it regularly you can bring your price down a bit, because you will eventually be spending less time on it, eh?  But if this is a one time job, go high.  Has to be worth your time. 
Would be an advantage to find someone who can reveal what the local schools budget for maintenance work, too.  Maybe they are allowed to pay much more than you anticipate.

I looked at a school once but it was in and out. The blue tack etc had to be removed everywhere as part of the clean, so you could imagine the problems there.
If yours is just the outside then it wouldnt be so hard but would you only want 50p a window. I would make it at least £1 a window and I bet they are large windows. Also, schools dont have their windows cleaned that often, in fact twice yearly normaly, so you got to take that into account.
One thing to remember if you take the job on is the risk assesment. Make sure you do one.
