The cost of building a round
« on: July 01, 2010, 04:12:04 pm »
We have spent £1000s on building a round over this last year, with flyers adverts website and all the man hours doing quotes,I can now see why people charge 5x monthly sometimes more.something for the new guys starting out to think about it's not just the cost of the kit

i bought a small round of 2 days a month 16 years ago for 80quid and canvassed like mad for 6 months and also carried on working with the windy who sold me it until i had enough to go it alone!!

it quickly turned into one days work a month as a lot of bad payers/messers and i was worried about getting mugged collecting!! ::) ::) ;D ;D.

the more work i get,the more work i get!! ;) ;D

apart from a few leaflets and business cards ive probably not spent more than £300 in 16 years.

the only money i have spent buiding my round is sixty pound on leafets and so printed polo shirts 90% off my work came from word off mouth or getting stop by people when out working other 10% came from door knocking or leafets i dont think i would buy work i would rather get my own at my own prices

Hi,I am building a round at the moment, only been at it eight weeks, the main cost is Time, some days Ive gone out canvasing all day and got nothing but No Thank You ,Which is really demoralising,(especially in the heat we have had recently) and other days I have picked up three or four in less than an hour without really trying, its very wierd! So just Perserverance and Time (and some nice business cards)are all you need,Good Luck to you.Ant. 8)

It depends whether you consider the time to be costed when you deliver leaflets or whatever.

I still believe leaflets are the best method, I know others disagree but door knocking is much more tiring and stressful. Also you end up with a lot of time wasters you end up dropping later.

Incidentally, had a reply this week from a leaflet we must have delivered three years ago.

Get into a routine go out every night and deliver a couple of hundred leaflets. Don't overdo it or you will burn out and lose motivation. Just keep at it, consider it as healthy exercise.

The good thing about leaflet or cards is they give you a good feedback about the area you drop them .

So if you get several calls from a certain area you can canvass knowing the area is short of a wc .

If you can get motivated there is so much work out there it just comes down to being persistent covering different areas !  ;D

We have dropped thousands and they bring in work, want to try some thing new like an advert at a bus stop or a roundabout but that's about £3000

I had a local radio ad. Is that different enough. First time cost me £80 for 4 weeks (which I had stretched to 5 with less plays per week) then had another in may for a couple of weeks cost £72.50. They wrote and recorded the ad and everything. Still get odd calls from it, but was not massivly impressed with results, but they reckon it has to be on for a while for it to sink in to people.

I was thinking more on the lines of an advert on a billboard that was there for 12 months, the radio was cheaper than I thought how many calls did you get from it?

why not find the local blabbermouth and get her to crow about you to all and sundry . they are often to be found in cafes/day centres . By sheer chance , a blabbermouth found me,when i was working on the high street and "he" sung my praises to a very wide audience, in a social club  and  brought in no end of work.

Best to tell her you are struggling a little everytime you see her, because then she will crow with renewed vigour (dont say you are "doing great " )

I never counted to be honest, first go I probably got between 10 and 12, This last time only 3 or 4. But from those
I picked up other work near by so all helped. Went up and paid at the radio station yesterday and they said a woman had
just rang up for my number as she is always driving when ad is on so cannot write it down. Its not been on for months!!

Local window cleaner near me has an ad on two roundabouts coming into town. They seem to have been vandalised a bit. (could have been my bad driving).

With Advertising you cant just have it in a paper or magazine for a couple of weeks it has to be in there all of the time, i find a smaller ad directing customers to my web site works well. What i did which seemed to work for me was, i went to my local railway station and found what free mags were left their for the commuter's..I found a glossy free mag and advertised in that. It cost me £100 per month but im averaging £800 per month of work coming from the magazine. I now i do different work to you guys but give it a go.
