Pressure washing, advice please
« on: September 16, 2008, 05:35:18 pm »
Hi, i've been window cleaning now for about 3 years and quite happy with the work that i do, mainly domestic.

Because of the wet summer we have had i have decided to push other things, with wet days in mind. I will be pushing gutter cleaning and fascias etc.

One thing i have been asked from time to time is pressure washing, drives, etc.

I have an industrial type of pressure washer, which has been stored now for around 7 or 8 years. My brother bought it many years ago, with the intention of starting a wheelie bin wash, which never came into fruitition.

At present it needs a new valve, as it is working only intermittently. I intend to get it working with a view to doing some drives next year, especially on rainy days.

What i need to know is pricing, etc. I am assuming it is per sq meter, but haven't a clue what the average price structure is.

I got talking yesterday to an elderly man who does it basically for a bit of pocket money. He was telling me there is a difference time wise, between brick drives and slabbed ones, so i again assume this would reflect in price?

I have also heard about brick acid being used but this guy was saying there is really no need for this.

I would appreciate any advice regarding price and also any problems that i may encounter if i did this.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

hi we did the same as what you are thinking about in april. it has gone great . we tend to do smaller jobs and price the job depending on how long we think it will take. what you will find is that the main problem is drainage especially with patios. we have bought a small wet and dry and use this when necessary. for example a drive that only fits one car on took about 20 minutes to wash but we were there nearly an hour and half cleaning up because it was like washing a swimming pool.
we have a 13hp machine and bought a fsc to do the work but now tend to find that the turbo nozzle is quicker and easier to use. it is a good little add on but no more than that. we get referrals from a local landscape gardener that does not provide this service but gets us to do it when he needs it . this is a good idea.
do a few small jobs first and you will soon price correctly. we work at 30 pounds a hour but you would probably want more. hope this helps.
