Pressure wash start up
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:02:24 pm »

I found link on a members profile the other day to  "SmartSeal"

I am a Window Cleaner wanting to move into Pressure washing as a service.

I have done some simple easy jobs for mates with just a electric jet wash(cheapo) just to test the  waters - and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. (thanks Ipod)

Is the smartseal business set up package a bit on the steep side, could I DIY it cheaper or are they a good starting point ?

thanks All.........

Bit steep IMO, also not a good time to start-up pressure washing, bit late in the season, do some research and look at starting next year.

no chance of doing any sealing in this weather dude!   the joints need to be totally dry to sand, then also you need all the time to seal the surface,  its too damp in this climate!  i packed it in this year using sealers and so have a few other guys, and thats in the summer, so forget it in the winter!

How about just the power washing then ?
do you have work through the year ? I expect that winter will be quieter - but is it dead?

I would have my window cleaning work to keep me going. I already do loads and loads of conserv roofs, Upvc , guttering and facia cleaning as extra work. I was thinking a decent power wash service with ppower wash lance would compliment my business.

TELL ME WHERE AND WHICH WASHER TO GET THEN. give me some links and names and prices

Ta

Cheap, powerfull and pro set up !

I have just taken delivery of my pressure washing set up from Merrill Fox, 13hp Honda powered pressure washer. 20inch whirlaway and turbo nozzle for about £1500. I know its probably the wrong time of year to get going but with they way the pound is dropping against the dollar I thought it was best to buy now while i still made a decent saving.

Look at the tech clean kit - it comes with threads (BSP) that you can buy spares for in this country and not American NPT threads that leak when mated to British threads, you also get to support a British firm

Tech-Clean machines, back-up & support are very good, and with the way the pound-dollar exchange is not much difference in price.

6hp would barely blast fresh muck off a car  (well that's maybe exaggerated ;D)  Have a look on ebay, theres a company called Jetmac, I bought mine off them last year, 3000psi Honda 13hp, does a great job, theres a bit of movement on the price if you haggle a bit.

They stock all the parts you'll need and can source you a flat surface cleaner as well if needed.

To be honest winters not a great time to start, the spring/summer was bad enough with all the rain.

It's pretty straight forward to do, so don't allow yourself to be ripped off or sold products you don't need.

A 13 hp Pressurre washer, turbo nozzle should be good enough to start with if you want to keep costs down, and when you get a bigger job buy the FSC and the job will pay for it.

You could expect to spend around £800 - 900 on a decent pressure washer, £50+ on a decent turbo nozzle and around £500 on a stainless steel Mosmatic FSC.

Thats all quality kit and with a bit of luck it shouldnt take long before you recover the outlay on it.

I think in general it's been kinda quiet for most people this year so think carefully before commiting yourself.  It might be disheartening starting out at the quietest time of the year.

Malcolm Smith is the guy I deal with and the best person to call for expert advice. He is 100% honest, totally reliable and can't do enough to help. On top of this he is generally well priced.

I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Link to his site: -

Tell him that Ian from ID Pro-Clean Ltd. advised you to call. I'm sure he'll do you a great deal on whatever you opt for.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes

Ian
