I found out soon into cleaning that a domestic cleaner position can be considered exempt from sex discrimination act. She can legally request a female cleaner ( a few of my custys do) but it is sometimes just because they don't think men can clean as well(so not true) rather than a fear of a male cleaner in their home. if she hasn't given a reason you could ask why and maybe have an opportunity to allay potential fears (and maybe break down some barriers!)
Is it possibly a cultural or religious reason??
