Help with pump not cutting out
« on: July 26, 2008, 10:11:58 am »
I am in the process of setting up my van system. Currently I have the setup as -

tank - Pump - DI Vessel - Minibore - pole

so the pump is pushing through the DI rather then pulling through it if you know what I mean. I tried it the other way but the pump seemd to struggle to pull through the DI as no water was coming out.

Now, everything seems to be working ok ohter than when I turn the tap on the minibore to stop the flow, the pump is not cutting out, it is still trying to pump away.

I am using a Shurflo 100psi and a Varistream.

Any help would be appreciated as I don't know where to go from here.

if everything is wired up ok. you may just need to alter the pressure setting on the varistream, this will alow your pump to cut out at a lower psi

No, you need to turn the numpty to adjust the flow.

Check very carefully for air leaks first, particularly the di vessel because it sounds like something is wrong because you couldn't get it to pull the water through either, so you may have an airlock somewhere. The varistream should work ok straight out of the box but may need a little fine tuning but nothing major. Ptfe any threads and make sure the di top is tight.

ok. good stuff alot easier to turn the pressure setting down. remove all 4 screws from each corner of the varistream. remove front cover. you will see a plastic blue little screw head with a dial around it. turn to your left only slightly. this will make your pump cut off at a lower pressure. you may need to keep adjusting it until you have it how you want it. hope this is of help and solves your problem

do you find your water blasts out when you turn your tap back on? i find it helps by turning the pressure setting down.  have a play around with it. im always messing around with peoples pressure settings to how the operator wants it

A couple of pics might help you to locate the dial you need to turn.

Cheers, thanks for all the help. In the end I needed to do a few things. Firstly, I connected the pump directly to the tank bypassing the Di altogether and the pump worked fine. Then I swapped everything to the tank - DI - Pump - Hose reel and this time it worked. The pump must just have needed to get some water into it for it to work.

The varistream needed to be turned right down to setting "A" (on the little blue dial in Jeff's pics) and after about 10 seconds it was cutting out. When the tap was turned on again there is a bit of a gush of water but after a second or two it settles down into a steady flow.

Thanks for all the help guys.

One more thing, what way should the pump be mounted. I have it with the water connectors at the top at the moment but I suspect that is wrong as the writing on the pump is upside down then.

Pump as low as possible to your tank, in/out lets to go on the bottom, also if you pump ever springs a leak, water won't go onto the electrics of your pump.

Is it best pushing through DI or pulling out of DI?
