Ideal round ?
« on: June 10, 2008, 07:07:00 am »
I am trying to build my round up so that I have 3 days ( 8hrs per day ) a week . I want to have mainly larger properties ( not bothered about large commercial stuff ) I am half way there now , but I am getting a bit complacent lol .   What is or would be your " ideal round " ?  ;D

One £1000 job per day that takes an hour to do  ;D

Seriously though my round is not perfect but its getting more compact and better priced and i have a few jobs that take a full day so its not far off perfect for me
That doesnt mean i wouldnt drop some when better work comes along so my round is ever changing now its organic

Commercial is king for me.  Shops, office, pubs and factories are where I make the big money.  Getting quite into petrol stations lately.  Save them for when its ping down, as the windows are almost always well under cover.  I lost a small primary school to a polish cleaner who cut my price in half recently  :(  That was 200 for 5 hours on a Saturday.  Was a good job.

I go for small commercial stuff mainly, stay away from having to give printed invoices - time and hassal.

Tend to find residential is a necessary evil, just to bulk up the round.

Perfect round would be a day like today, half commercial, half domestic. Parked in one spot for eight hours today and 100m of hose extended in all directions. Flats, guest houses & large houses, so a nice variety. Exactly the same again tomorrow except that it's 100% domestic, parked in one spot in the middle of the street.

350 bungalows all in a row, all with side gates that are left open. No dogs poo, no big rose bushes and the odd randy yummy mummy.

The eternal question ;) I like the principle that lots of small customers provide security. If you lose one or two, so what. If you have a job that takes all day and you lose it, that's a big hit. However, lots of smalls creates problems too. Collection. So I plump for 4 good paying jobs per day. Near home. With no access problems. Who all pay. It would help if there was something nice to look at.  ::)Wake me up when this dream is over...

I think a good split between residential and commercial is good. You always need good commercial contracts for when the weather is bad. We've taken 3 years to "tweek" our round to what we believe is perfect for us. We took a decision in January to employ someone as we had too much work for two people. Disaster. We only got as far as cv's, but they were so bad we decided to just stick to the two of us. So we got rid of 60 customers who it wasn't worth our while doing and concentrated on getting some more commercial work (hotels/nursing homes and schools) which we succeeded in doing. By streamlining our business we have increased our average house price to over £18 per house. Before anyone says that's fine if you've only got 30 customers, we havn't, we've got a 3 figure sum of houses and our average commercial monthly price is £75 per job.

We now work smarter not harder.

It is good to have a good mix of customers also , I have some oap bungalows and flats , and they are the best payers ( and tea making ) and they never complain as they are always glad to see you  ;D
