Window cleaning comments
« on: January 14, 2005, 05:48:48 am »
I know lots of you probably hear comments from people jokeing around with you.  "You missed a spot"  "why clean the windows; they will just get dirty again" "Hey, will you do my windows" " I have a car over there that is dirty; will you clean it"?  "You are too pretty to be cleaning windows". Being a female I have heard it all. I usually ignore the remarks because I am laughing all the way to the bank! People have no idea how successful window cleaning can be. I am glad they don't.  I already have enough competition. Ever notice how no one goes near a  door at a store unless you are cleaning it?  I have often said" Your business will pick up as soon as we start cleaning the doors. Of course, most of the public looks down on us poor window cleaning proffessionals. Little do they know that we have just made $30 for 30 minutes of work! Ha Ha Ha! It has really been funny through out my years of window cleaning. A great way to ignore the public is by wearing head phones while you work.  I would pretend not to hear a lot of comments. You do meet a lot of fantastic people but I don't have to tell you all how ignorant the public is about our trade.
Looking forward to more communication from my fellow window cleaners.
Debbie

Mal,
Are you an attractive blonde/blue eyed size 2 petite female? If not, maybe you should go to some beauty salons and places where women would love to see an attractive man come around to clean their windowsl (Wear some snug jeans). I guarantee some contracts at the right places. I always thought every proffession has room for some beauty.

At first I wondered WFP? Then I read more posts and figured it out.  I have not used that method but I think you guys do more homes and less stores than I do. I stay busy enough sticking to 2 story and less so we are using ladders or regular poles. I have about 300 commercial accounts; many are malls, store strip centers, shopping centers, etc. Easy fast some do not require even a 2 ft pole.

How Big is your WFP? :-* And how good are you at using it? ;)

Hey Duke,

Thanks for the welcome. It is so cool to be hooked up with a window cleaning forum! There is a 6 hour difference in time between you all and me so I will check and respond when I am able. You are 6 hours ahead.  I usually stay pretty focused during business hours, which is probably when you guys are all finished for the day, and are drinking a cold one.

Ross;

Like my cowgirl hat? Well, this is Texas. The lake you see in the background is at my home.  I live on Lake Belton, in Belton, TX. It is 60 miles north of Austin, and 100 miles south of Dallas.  I live 15 miles from Fort Hood, Tx, the largest military installation in the world. The economy is booming in this area. I can't beleive it how it is growing so fast. Lots of new glass; homes, businesses, offices, etc.
I am originally from Iowa, but I do not like cold weather. I don't have any cowboy boots, but I am going to buy some one day. I think they are sexy.

I employed a really good looking female once, she was a good window cleaner too, but having a dinner break in a local pub or a drink after we had all just finished work (at the time I had 2 other lads working for me as well) playing a game of pool was really distracting, tiny shorts and a low cut vest top with a push up bra tends to have that effect.........I forget what she was wearing, but I got loads of looks ;D

The one lad (Lance) had sat on a high window sill and was watching Louise and the other lad (Ollie) play pool. He claimed he was sat on the window sill to stay out of the way, but he was leaning so far forward as Louise was leaning over the table to play a shot, he fell off the window sill and landed flat on his face ;D Hysterical,.................well, ok, you had to be there :-\
I never objected to her wearing sexy gear to work (HEY, I'm a guy :P) But if she was working in the high street and doing the inside of a large, plate glass window you would have men walking into lamp posts, or getting a smack in the ear from girlfriends or wives ;D
She only lasted a month though :'( She had to travel to far to get into work and her car had died...sigh :-[

I am a WFP'er and do mostly shops and so on and I find the WFP to be better and quicker overall than traditional methods, if you are doing shopping malls I presume they are roofed over? so Trad methods would be the only way to do them, but if the windows are open to the elements then WFP is top banana ;)

Hi Ian!

Thanks for the welcome.  You guys crack me up with your comments to each other and your stories. I love it! :-* I can tell we will share some laughs down the road.  I do have some funny stories I will tell you some time. Being a woman in this business has been a lot of fun, and I have had some funny things happen. Like the time the Dr. Pepper man was carrying several cases of soda on a dolley, and he ran into the door because he was watching me work; dropped all the soda because he rolled the dolley into the door which had a 12 inch step down! :D It was quite funny, but I felt sorry for the dude; he was really embarrassed.  ???  Take care, and God Bless!
