Harris Pole / Unger Poles
« on: May 28, 2008, 06:59:30 am »
With all the `hype`just lately with the Harris pole ( I have 4 myself,
2 x 15 foot extended and the 2 smaller ones for downstairs) what is
The advantage with them over say the Unger Tele-Plus or Unger
Opti-loc which I`ve loads of them. There`s certainly more bend with
The Harris pole. The only thing I can see is they are a `tad`lighter in
Weight.Unless I`m missing something.Replies and comments please
Thanks.

I think the main advantage with the Harris bendy bendy is that you can watch a 1 minute video of a confident young designer jean clad windowcleaner demonstrating how to clean frequently cleaned houses.

It's a shame he's not on commission because I should think he would have sold at least 2 or 300! :D

Lewis, I converted an unger pole about a year ago and didn't get on with it at all. The harris clamps are far better and easier to use, the pole also slides up and down much easier than the unger. I could go on, but as has already been said they are much cheaper!! so at £15 you might as well see for yourself!!!  ;)

I have a Teleplus pole as well. I find the diameter of the Unger too thin plus also the clamps are easier on the Harris. My Harris is also a lot shorter when closed.

Also as bonus I don't mind drilling holes in the the Harris for the tubing etc.

The 5 mtre pole has 3 sections, although if you check out my video 'Harris pole extension' you will see that a fourth section can be easily added to make it into a 22ft pole!!  :)

The last Unger No5 section also fits onto the base of the Harris and tightens up with the Unger Collar !!!!

Well Jeff ( Brimble),I was going to have another topic on
Extending Harris poles but don`t need to now.Jeff,am I
Correct in saying that a section of a Ron Thomson `Zensorflex`
Fishing pole fit`s into the base of the Harris? If so,with Groundhog`s
Alu extention at the `business end`( see his video) what height could
Ya get to assuming that all this extending `faff`dos`nt make the pole
So whippy and bendy that it could`nt be used, which there is I guess
A good possibility of that being the case.Has anyone tried this yet
With the Harris? Thanks for replies and comments.

No idea of cost Joe, A telepole is a 3 section (like the harris) so sections 4 and 5 are available seperately to order (try "windowcleancentre")
Harris is a 5m so adding a No1 is 2m and a No5 is 2m = 9m.

But its getting heavy again. I got the Unger to 42ft by adding extension to extension, but it reached its limit.

The Zensor will add 3.5m to the 5m harris, Lewis if used vertically and is a lighter way of doing it.

To be honest, Its a good little pole at 5m but by adding bits... well I think I wouod prefer to go the C/f route to get to 30ft because your mixing tele with modular. But it will doand I am having fun with te Harris even though its a 3 year step backwards for me. Only trying to say what will go with what to save folks time  :)
By all means get a harris because its now going to become the first step on the "ladder" but going higher than 20ft needs a different approach and more £££
ps Peters clampless alu may also be worth waiting for later in June as its shorter than the harris which  6ft2" without a brush when closed -
