I haven't conducted anything as detailed as Tony has, but here's my experience. Windows on one side/corner/whatever are dirtier than others due to the wind. If it's been a windy, dry month they are dirtier than if it's been a wet, windless month. I use gg3 when doing trad, rather than Fairy etc. In answer to the question, I's say fiction.
