To all those leaving window cleaning
« on: February 19, 2008, 09:14:47 pm »
I am in the process of trying to build up a decent window cleaning round , and I have given quite a few quotes for people . The funny thing is after giving my price they say it is " more than there last wc charged "  .       If you are giving up please explain to your customers that you have underpriced them , and that is the reason your are going to work for ******* at £5 : 60 an hour !  Sorry to rant but I am getting this a lot now  :'(

Yes Jonah, not surprising people lose w/c'r when you find out what they were charging. "No wonder they stopped coming" is my response.

Always a problem !
And it does make it harder for the rest , but if thats the reponce from the customers then you are better of without them
IMO if they are going to quibble over a price then that will leave you open to alsorts later
Andy :)

True !  I  have a large area to cover here so now I am not bothering to drive to give A QUOTE  ,  when they phone I just ask for details of property ie ammount of windows leaded or not 2 or 3 storey etc .

I do the same, but I do say that I need to see the property to confirm the price.

We all get the "oh you are dearer than my last one" comments.
Without checking with their EX window cleaner, how do you know the potential custie isn't trying to pull a fast one ???

Perhaps that is what their EX window cleaner did and got it wrong, hence the lower prices. ;D ;D
For example..... "how many windows do you have at the front of your house?" answer..." 2 and my front door which has glass above."
So.... that could easily be one window with 2 sections and another window which is a bay window with 6 sections..In the customers eyes that is 2 windows! In your eyes...more. Never quote blind, leads to trouble for such a little effort in the first place ;)

I never drive to quote domestic, just give a price over the phone and tell them you will honour it for the first clean and if it is any different than you have priced you will let them know after you have doen it for the next visit.

This helps to show you are not trying to rip them off and if you price high then you can reduce it and it looks like you are fair and decent, even if this is not true :P

Never be afraid to be more expensive than the last cleaner. Take it as a compliment, It means you have got the price right.
I hit that one every time I quote a job, but if they don't want to pay it I take a walk, that doesn't happen very often.
