How much. She having a laugh
« on: May 18, 2004, 06:41:44 pm »
This old dear rang me up today for a quote for her windows
Turned up bmw and caravan in the driveway
Big 4 bed bungalow with 12 windows 2 of them large bay windows and a small conservatory with 3 bits of glass i quoted her £15 which i think is a reasonable amount for the windows she has
She turned round and said I thought it was only going to be about £3.
I said maybe it was 20 years ago but not know more.
I explained we do a professional job with the most up to date detergents and said we where fully insured.
Her husband then said well that does not sound to bad and would i do it every month as her last few window cleaner. cleaned once and then never come back.
I wonder why.
Anyway she said she is going to ring me if she does want me to do it or not.
I bet she doesn't.
Now do you think this was a resonable for a regular service

Dont lower your price that sounds about right to me. You lost a customer whom does not want to pay for a proper job. Sod her there be plently more taking up that offer.

Justin

Ps If she rung me back i would now say its £18

That exactly what i thought
I do not intend of lowering my prices
I'm making a point of not lowering any prices no matter who they are.
The price i quote is the price they are going to pay if they want me to do them.
I'm not going to work for peanuts like many people think we do.
Getting quite a few customers this week must be the sun so like you said sod her.

Ooo :P For me that would depend on how many panes of glass per window and also the size of the panes.
My own house has 13 windows, including a half georgian door, with the WFP it only takes me 5 or 6 minutes, tops.
The old way with ladders and squeegee took me about 15 or 20 minutes.
I know it also depends on the part of the Country you are in, but I would have a hard time justifying charging more than £8.50 or so for a bungalow of that size. Unless all the windows are geogian of course :D Or the windows that are there are big plate glass affairs :o
But if you can get that sort of money then more power to your elbow!

Very fair price. Don't let people dictate to you how much they are going to pay. You are offering the service, you dictate the price. Don't haggle. If they don't accept then leave it, there are plenty of others who will pay for a good service.  My reply to the customer who says "my last window cleaner only charged me £??" is,...then he's the bloke you should be speaking to!

My reply to the customer who says "my last window cleaner only charged me £??" or "he only cleaned once and didn't come back"

I usually say, "why do you think he didn't come back? Maybe he realised he charged too cheaply!"

One of the benefits of using a WFP is that it's a lot quicker, this is your enefit for investing £xxx's in the system, not your customer's benefit.

Charge what you would do if you were using a ladder, and clean quicker and safer and earn more with a WFP  :D
