shurflo backpack problems .... again
« on: January 03, 2008, 04:11:37 pm »
I was working on a job today and my backpack was working fine to start with, then after about 20 mins it started going wrong.
I would put it on the second setting as usual, and the flow rate would change up a gear then another one, until it turned itsself off. Then it cam back on, then did the same thing. And again. Then it stayed off.
I had to disconnect the battery, then attatch it again to get a bit of life out of it. only for the same thing to happen again!

I came close to throwing it under a bus today!!! >:(  ..  it was  doing my head in!  >:(

I checked to see if the filter was blocked  .... nope.
I changed the stop end connector coming from the backpack to see if that was the problem   ... nope.
The battery is fully charged, and the light wasnt flashing underneath.

Please....   somebody tell me whats wrong with it.

sounds like it could be an airlock, with the pressure, i dont have a back pack but can you disconnect any stop ends, from either end then try it sucking water free without any connectors...?
sounds like backpacks have allot of problems. :-(

mate i had the same problem and it turned out to be a block in the pole hose,it was crushed at the point that it leaves the pole to go towards the brushhead, might sound obvious but it took me near a week to discover it-i was about to send the backpack away for repair

Richy,

You need a NEW BATTERY if it was fully charged already.  The key is when you say you've got to disconnect and re-connect the battery and it works for a few more seconds before cutting out.  THIS IS DEFINATELY A BATTERY PROBLEM.

Trust me on this; I've experienced exactly the same when my two previous batteries aged.

I always keep a spare; they seem to last about 7 or 8 months of constant use (and I give mine a hammering).

If you're desperate, you're quite welcome to borrow my spare battery till a new one you order gets delivered.  I can leave it outside my house for you, if you want to collect it during working hours.

oh yeah, and i did try taking off the sto end and sucking it, but i had no luck there either.

Is this what happened to your then tosh? i would have thought it might be the pump or something, as its so erratic

Both my previous batteries worked fine and then cut out.  There was no erratic pumping.  I then disconnected them and reconnected and they worked for a minute then cut out again.  I could disconnect/reconnect and then it would do exactly the same; work for a minute or so then cut out.

I'd try a new battery.  £20 for a battery is spot on; you won't get one cheaper; I think I paid double that, to get one quickly.
