Overdraft
« on: December 27, 2007, 09:14:12 pm »
Do any of you guys have overdraft facility on your business account? Or did you have overdraft facility when you started up? How receptive are banks to window cleaners? How much seems reasonable from the banks point of view to give?

I don't have one on my business account.  I do have one on my personal account.  It's better to avoid them on business accounts IMO because banks seem to call them in more easily that on personal accounts.

Business overdrafts are a joke >:(

First they want a fee for setting them up, then they want a monthly fee whether you use them or not, then they want an extortionate interest rate if you do use them.

Get a personal loan and use that instead - FAR CHEAPER

I've just arranged a 5k personal loan with abbey which is parked for thirty days in case i need it.(I have a 10k tax bill to settle before 28 jan).

The actual rate was/is 19.9 over 12mths which was the minimum repayment period. This is £459 pm with £508 interest over the term.
The typical APR quoted was 12.9%.

Two lenders, nationwide and C&G turned me down! Talk about bloody cheek.

I do my own books and probably need go on one of the ir help days. I try not to get too het up about money.

As regards finance overdrafts etc i think the point I was trying to make was that money is now hard to get. I was surpised that I was turned down as I am a home owner with a clean credit history and no cards.

if you earn the money your gotta pay the tax our overheads are very low even with wfp so a large proportion of our turn over will go to the tax man compared with other businesses. this is why i don't believe many people on here claims about how much they earn because when you talk about tax they always
think your paying too much yet if people are earning what they claim to be and are above board (tax wise) as they claim to be they too would have large tax bills.

I got turned down by one bank as well highly annoying, but got it from another, then the first bank came back and offered more work that one out.

If you are doing your own books Mr S, I can tell you are quite clued up yet you dont have an accountant  ::) it will save you money

my tax bill is high and I hate paying it you are right if you earn well you pay more, some pay more than others and have old equipment van ect ect as they dont have someone in the know (an accountant advising what to do) I did the same for years till I got an accountant, I was driving a beat up estate car and paying quite alot of tax each year ( I say quite alot as it is quite alot to me) I still pay quite alot but have newer everything, that side of business I do not know much about so I let some that does do it for me and a part of what the charge comes off tax bill aswell.

Mr solubility
I was told to get a "a" rating credit history you have to play their game and get a credit history with lots of credit and just pay the bill as they become due
The quickest and easiest way for this is by credit cards
I couldnt get a mortgage years ago as i didnt have a credit history as i paid for everything in cash so therefore no credit history got a card and paid everything by card and paid it at the end of the month
This solved the problem and got a mortgage

you are right in a way to get a1 credit rating you need to have credit, seems stupid to me, but I had to do this aswell as I was a little silly when I was 17/18 and all for a top of the range stereo that I swopped for a playstation and a pc  :-[
