Care Home.
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:09:14 pm »
Hi All,

As you probably know, i havn't been going to long, but i'm doing ok.

Sent a few emails out, and have been asked to quote a residential care home.

It's 30 bedrooms.

I havn't quoted anything this big yet, so will have a sneak peak before i do the quote.

How do you guys go about these?

Risk Assessment, Method Statements etc, or just a paper quote?

Do you price the same as you would commercial?

Thanks

quote as you normally would on paper and tell them if they wish to see insurances and method statements etc then these are freely available

make sure you smell inside first before you put a price in, assuming they want insides done too. I quote for a 4 weekly clean, switching between insides and out every 4 weeks so both sides of the glass done every 8 weeks. If you get the job (put in your method statement or tell the manager!) that you will only clean bedrooms if there is no resident in them.....this covers your backside against any allegations of assault.... alot of the poor residents are suffering from dementia etc. if they are particular about having all the rooms done ask for a member of staff to escort your round the bedrooms (they wont bother doing this) and some residents will always be in bed, guaranteed. eventually all the rooms get cleaned inside because rooms tend to be vacated on a regular basis if you get my drift. dont lower your price because some rooms dont get cleaned though, its just the luck of the draw, sometimes you win, sometimes the care home wins. If you make sure the manager sees the situation as covering his/her backside too then you are both onto a winner. hope this helps

My first question is always:  "What are your payment terms?"

These jobs seem brilliant, especially to a newbe, but if they make you wait months for your money you're much better off leaving them alone and concentrating on better and quicker paying domestic.

I've got a block of sheltered housing flats, nine flats on three floors, pays £90 every eight weeks.  At first they paid me out of petty cash on presentation of invoice.  Last time they said it wasn't convenient, and could I put in an invoice and get paid on monthly account?  It's seven weeks now since I did them last.  If I don't get paid before they're due again, I won't be doing them.  I'll get my money and then replace them with something else.

Cheers,

Ian
