Tucker WFP system
« on: October 15, 2004, 08:24:16 pm »
Hi fellas me again more questions!
Been thinking about these WFP systems and all the malarky with ladders etc etc so I have come to the decision to sell my road bike and go all out to get the pole system ,can anyone tell me if the Tucker brand is worth going for as a "starter unit " or what? plus with my trusty Bedford "Dizzy" Rascal can carry the tank and not worry about the load issues (125litre tank) have seen this system on www.wintecs.co.uk at what I think is a good price of £699.99 what say you guys?
Cheers

Hi Kev

No experience of Tuckers apart from shaking their very light pole at Windex. They seem to have a very good dual trim brush, but I'm not keen on the pole clamps' tightening method, and being real picky, I'd be loathe to pay £12 for a tool to tighten the clamps with - funny how some prices come back through the red mist - once a Tight Scot, always . . .

A 125ltr tank is going to give you two hours work at 1ltr per minute. Are you able to refill away from your house/base?

I peeked at the Wintecs site and unless you're in a soft-water area, you'll need to purchase some of their add-ons. And, being very Nationalistic, their graphic of soft-water and hard-water areas in GB comprises England and Wales, cuts off at the Scottish-English border and the whole of Ireland seems to have floated off into the mid Atlantic somewhere - big black mark to Wintecs and I'll be contacting the Race Relations Board first thing on Monday morning.  >:(

Nice one Wavie!!
Yes ok that gives me food for thought  as we are in a hard water area will have to sort that issue and yep have a fill facilitie as only gonna go local to start(obviously bigger tank more hours)But on the whole does that price and system seem reasonable as a start up?

Tucker has a good reputation among WFP suppliers.  They seem to prefer static systems where the water is stored in a large "garage" tank and later transferred into the vehicle's tank.  The only water treatment in the vehicle being DI vessels.  This arrangement has several advantages.

I'm with Davie on the pole clamps though, I dont much like them.  (the ones at windex didnt need a tool did they?  just strong fingers)

hmmm, no disrespect intended to wintecs, but, looks a bit of a fred-in-the-shed thing to me.  I would sooner look at a financing option from a WFP supplier (rather than a window cleaning supplier that is trying to get into WFP) these can work out very reasonable when spread over a few years, and you know that the kit will be good quality.

A WFP system is a serious financial committment.  There are very important differences between the various suppliers.

My advice is: get demos from as many WFP suppliers as you can, then go for the system you liked best.  Tucker will be happy to do a demo as will others.  It is free of charge.

[Ask some companies for a demo and they will say, "er... get a demo from [company X] and if you like the system give me a call back cos ours are the same, ok mate" If they say that, put the phone down and discard their number forever]

I think you'd need more than strong fingers in the winter Phil - it would be bad enough in warm weather looking at the size of the twist-grip clamp-tightener thingy, but with semi-numb fingers . . . !  After consulting page 1 of the October 2004 price list, it says that a Tucker Tool is supplied with every Pole system. The price for a replacement would be £12.99 + vat + p&p

Has anybody used this gadget? How did you get on before using it? Is it now indispensable?

Tom, The adjuster looks the size of a butterfly wing-nut but with the gap filled in, how easy is it to adjust the poles without the Tucker Tool?

Yes, the chap said it's the lightest for it's height - 15lbs I think - it certainly felt good in the hand.
