POLE FLOW CONTROL VALVE
« on: July 07, 2007, 05:19:54 pm »
Anyone had probs fitting the freedom pole control valve?

I've tried every combination of wrapping the felcro strap round the pole but there just doesn't seem to be enough room for the felcro and the pipe under the valve. I've ended up using cable ties to hold it on.

Other than that, it does a good job.

Dont really understand how the pipe would get in the way of the velcro unless yours is a differnt design to mine. It couldnt be simpler with mine, you just pull the velcro strap tight and thats it. Only problems ive had is the rubber feed for the pipe split within a week, so ive had to tape the pipe to the pole to avoid causing "stress" where the pipe fits to the valve, and the main body of the valve is very sharp on the edges which scrapes a layer of skin off now and again. Brilliant addition to the pole though, wouldnt be without it. If you could post a photo I might be able to help.

Hi Nick,

The instructions that came with it indicated that the felcro strap should be wrapped round under the valve body to hold the bracket to the pole. This was the only way that the hooks would meet up with the loops, as if you doubled it back on itself without going under the valve body the hooks and loops are facing away from each other. However when you do this there isn't enough space left to fit the hose through. So I tried taking the strap off and reversing it so as to avoid going under the valve body but that doesn't work either. So I gave up and strapped it on with heavy duty quick release cable ties.

Though the idea is good and the tap works well I had to mod it to make it fit. I was just wondering if I had an odd one or if they're all like that.

Ive tried posting a photo but just get an error message all the time. Mine does wrap round under the valve and isnt in the way of anything. I got mine in April but have to say that the one shown on the freedom site does now look different so maybe ive got a predesessor.I dont have a pipe in the way at all, it just conects at each end with the valve itself being set on a solid block and the tap also in a different position(faces upright not to the side). Probably worth giving them a ring, shouldnt be having to make your own fixing solutions. I imagine if youve used cable ties, your not able to move the valve up and down the pole which is why i imagine they used velcro in the first place. Like wise, now ive had to tape the inlet pipe to the pole, mine too is "fixed" in a set position. Its very nearly a good piece of kit, just not quite there yet.

Your earlier post about your hose splitting is probably why they've redesigned the bracket. You are now supposed to fit the brush hose to the bottom of the valve when holding the pole upright, and the feed hose to the top, looping it back and through the bracket under the valve. This is probably to prevent stress to the valve connector when moving the pole up and down. When you look at the pic on eBay (the bigger one) you can see the hose going back under the valve. However once the strap is fitted there is not enough room to get the hose through. Looks like I'll have to talk to Andy.

Thanks for your reply

Mark

Looks like I did the right thing with the cable ties then! I used the large re-usable ones you can get from maplins so I can fit it to my other pole on the odd occasion I need to without having to cut them off.
