I`ve heard people on here going on about bleach before, I use it to get rid of mould as far as i`m concerned as long as you have done the usual, obtained a coshh sheet and done a risk assessment on the use of it (and followed the results of your risk assessment), then no probs.

But I would like it if some one could say for def if i`m right or wrong

Some insurance companies wont pay out if there's a claim which involves bleach, so be careful.

thats not so bad I know a few cleaners who could do with being gassed,

Chlorine bleach is only effective in killing mold on hard surfaces like tiles, kitchen tops etc. With porous surfaces the water part of the bleach soaks into the structure while the disinfectant qualities remain on the surface and evaporate / gas off. Mold has roots which grow into porous surfaces.

Bleach is not a cleaner it is more of a disinfectant and will hide the dirt, making it translucent.

hi there

just dnt use bleach,

it is classed as a hazardous chemical in the workplace,

example

yu clean domestic toilet with bleach, but dont wash it all away, then the client adds another toilet cleaner for some reason, resultant gas affects you client

or

you clean a toilet with a toilet cleaner, and then the client putws bleach down the toilet, again gas can be formed,

in either event the consequences are not good, just avoid it

In your 2nd example you mentioned a client using bleach, how do you stop that happening?

The only sure-fire way is to make sure you BOTH use the same stuff, ie if its loo cleaner they use then you use loo cleaner, if they use bleach then you use bleach.

I totally accept the reasons why you shouldn't use bleach, but like anything in life there are 2-sides to everything. I, as a lone worker, am of the other opinion re:bleach.

There is no right or wrong, and each of us cleaing proprioters has to make a decision about what is right for us.

As a side comment (side NOT snide!) i rang my insurance broker today (Barclay Brown) who contacted my insurer (Fortis) who said there is no problem with me using bleach should i wish to. Seeing how it has been said that some insureres wont cover bleach, i thought i'd let you know of one that does in case you ever need to find one.

I think the main point here is that there are better cleaners and disinfectant products around, without the associated health & safety problems that bleach has.

Yes i can see the point/did see the point.

My own personal opinion is that bleach is OK on some occasions. Nothing is going to change me.

I am also very wary of 'blanket' statements that are made by folk who biased because they simply just dont like something.

The only place i use it is a bleach based product for mould & mildew. Oterwise i use professional anti bacs and degreasers in the kitchen.
