I got my backpack today and plugged it in to charge but how do you know when it`s finished,there is no lights on the battery itself and every now and again it lets off a high pitched bleeping noise.

What does the instructions say?

On the one i had there was a red and a green light on the charger i think.

Not used it for some time now so can't remember.

I used to leave mine on over night charging and use the spare battery.

I got an electronic type 12v battery tester from Motor world for £15 because at one point I had 5 batteries on the go and you need to test them as they get older. Scratch the purchase date on the base. Never cross the terminals even once or the charger is KAPUT.

if its a shurflo, its ok, dont worry  it can not  over charge, its inteligent,

bought mine from maplins last year he said between 8-12 hours
still gooing strong.  first one i got from the states lasted 2weeks :

I stick mine on charge every second night overnight.

Gets about 11 hours.

You shouldn't hear a high pitched bleep???

you don't need to!  It will definitely be chard if you leave it on over night!

NWH,  I had this problem too, it was mainly because I did not actually read the manual, not that I am saying that is what you did too.

The charger has a certain amount of intelligence (though I admit it looks like a fancy plug),  it will charge at fast rate until it sees some resistance and then switches to a slow trickle.   I have not managed to make mine run out yet,  basically stick it on charge over night and it is ready for the next morning.  The charger itself kicks out 1amp, the Battery is 7A/hr.  So 7 hrs should charge it from flat to full.  However you want to prevent it from running flat as it does the battery no good at all,  the back pack itself also has a certain amount of intelligence and will cut off if the voltage drops too low rather than run the battery dry.

then get 2 more spare batteries:

Then have:

1 on charge
1 out with for spare
1 in use

Also get:

And test the batteries.
After charging they should have about 13 to 13.5 volts in

as you dont need them
