hello all
« on: June 18, 2007, 08:45:23 pm »
Hi all,
just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to you all, about 3 weeks i kept hearing from a few different women of the town i live in complain about how they could not find anyone to clean their windows.I uhmed and ahed etc etc,the went to my local printers and had 500 hundred flyers printed. The response wasenough to give a weeks notice in my job and start, well i started my round last week, i brought a van for 550 pounds, insured it for a further 550 >:( ten brought my personal liability insurance 60 quid, then  my ladders cloths and equipment a further 250 pounds. In 2 weeks ive got about 60 customers, frm that 60 about 70% want a fortnightly clean the rest monthly and 5 want weekly.I got the idea cos of the women who were complaining and the fact thatn my window cleaner jacked it in at christmas without telling anyone! well the first week i earned only 130 quid,i concentrated on saftety and went real slow (ive never been up a ladder before) i however estimate that within 2 months i will be sadly turning work away and should be earning up to 15 quid an hour, sure you all know theres a lotmore to it than that. The first week i arrived home about 6 oclock by seven i was in bed and fast asleep. But  its been a blast today i was free to have my van lettered with my name and number etc,it gave me such a kick to see this van with my name on,im 51 and have never been self employed!! im not a gambler, but i know for sure this is going to be one of the few sucess stories of my life!!
have anyof you guys attended the BWC courses,i was particulary interested in the safety course.doesanyone have any tips for me,anyhting they think i should need to know? please dont be afraid of any constructive critiscism,i wantt o make a sucess of tis,and whatever happens i will,id sure like though to learn before i make any big boo boos.its nice to know that i can come here and meet like minded people and people who can share their experiences etc with me.

Hi Kieth.

Welcome mate. Great the way it's gone well for you. I've been a wc about 20 years now & still learning new tricks of the trade. You learn alot quicker from your mistakes than been told.

Saying that anything your not sure about post a Q up & your sure to get the help & tips needed.

Nothing you can do.  The customer can choose to have whoever they wish to clean their windows - just as you can choose not to clean them any more.
I suppose you could ask them to sign a contract but that would probably put them off anyway.

There on your list but they can cancel any time so they don't belong to you.

If you are reliable & on time ish, do a good job every time the majority will stick with you.

I would offer 2 & 4 weeks not 5 mate. Explain to your custy's you are there on the 4th week & it will save you alot of wasted travel time.
