pole sizes for tops and bottom windows
« on: May 31, 2007, 04:41:52 pm »
can you advise on what is best size of pole to do both top windows and bottoms on modern houses ,ie barrett -i would think a pole say 18ft in 3x 6ft sections would be too long for the downstairs windows ,ie angle and room wise or is it more common for you wfp users to change to a smaller pole for the downs I am trad at mo but going to wfp this month                     paul

the 2x2' extender pole is damm handy i found the 18' pole too clumsy on some houses and you can easily hit the customer or anyone or anything

at £60 cheep enough mine came with brush as well (vikin)

i would say it really depens on how stron you are and how healthy you want to be in 4 years?

Tops id say between 18-20 foot at least if you get an awkward window over a conservatory you may not reach with just an 18 also down stairs if you use a 6 foot pole after a couple of years after lifting all that weight your arms will become worn so id say use a 3 foot for downstirs but it upto you.

I have been using a very rigid 24 foot pole for over conservatories etc.  A while ago I switched to an 18 foot Extender.  Because it is much lighter I find that I can hold it at more awkward angles more easily.  I often do long reach windows above a conservatory from the side now (usually possible).  As the Extender is more bendy, the brush ends up at an OK angle to clean with (vertical).  I realise that this pole may not end up having a long life but if I need to swap it every six months it will be worth it due to the shoulder strain that I no longer have.

I use a 12 foot extender pole for most domestic jobs, I have an 18ft for the odd window I cant reach with it, over conservatories etc. On the van I have a 40ft and  a 60ft carbon fibre poles. These are used only for commercial jobs. Four poles reach all I will ever need. But for day to day domestic use if you want to save pennies go for a 18ft extender, cheap, light, easily replaced. The only problem is in tight spaces between houses, close to a fence, wall etc, with a 2 section 18ft.

24ft carbon facelift with a swivel on brush, do all tops & bottoms with it, very light & rigid & very robust. the base section is only just thicker than a broom handle too.

I don`t know the weight but i have one the carbon fiber 24ft,it is a very good every day pole.As far as 24ft poles go it`s the rolls royce nothing else gets near it at that height for day to day usage,i do use it for bottom window`s from time to time but i find it easier to use a shorter pole ie 2x2  or 3x3 extender.I normally use it for downstairs windows when i`m round the back of houses, saves going back to van or round the front to get shorter pole.

It doesn't really matter jeff, no modular pole will ever beat this pole for every day domestic use & i'm sure you know that wether you admit it or not. ;)
the miniscule weight difference between these poles at this height is not even an issue, but every other factor is in the facelifts favour apart from price, but to be honest, the wasted time & effort people with fishing poles put into "lookong after them" even the price factor is evening out ( though to me, its false economy anyway).

I use a 12ft extender with a swivle, brilliant. And a 20ft for the ones the 12ft won't get.  Did start with a 4ft extender for the downstairs but it proved to be a waste of time for me.

Will look at getting a facelift when the bank manager says I can.

Simon.
