Do you guys feel that a license is a good or bad idea. Up here in Scotland we legally need one. I think it would be a good idea if the local councils did something about ones that dont have a license. As i pay my money for one but the idiot cleaning next doors windows may not but nothing ever gets done.

When you get your licence do they actually check up on anything (i.e your registerd for tax, insurance etc) or is it just a case of them taking your money and giving you a piece of paper in return??
better luck tommorow.......

Sounds just like the CRB checks that we have here.
Id have thought they'd check other things like insurance, tax etc to try and get rid of the people that are claiming benefits etc.
Surely all they'd need for this is a national insurance number.
better luck tommorow.......

You also have to provide a certificate of public liability or you will not get a licence
but once you get a licence there are no checks until you renew a year later

Gordons,

Just seen this as have just come back from hols, yes there is a problem with the licensing in Scotland which the reason the SLWCN was formed so as a body of licensed window cleaners we will push the councils in resolving this.

I see you are from the Glasgow area and we know the official figure of licensed window cleaners in Glasgow, this is not a true figure but there are only around 50 licensed window cleaners in Glasgow. Don't die of shock.

We also have lists of licensed window cleaners throughout Scotland adn are unearthing loads of flaws with the licensing. We are not in the same boat, taxi drivers and others have the same problem and are very interested in how we will deal with this.

We have strong support within the Scottish Executive and Parliament who instructed us to liase with the councils which we are doing.

Our main aim is to get public awareness which will be a winner if we can acheive that. In my area my local council are working with us and unlicensed window cleaners are dropping like flies. Hence I had calls even on holiday and guys up here are now charging what they are worth when new customers come along.

It will take time but we will get there but we need licensed window cleaners like yourselves to join so we can have a bigger voice so the likes og Greig Aveniu and Caledonian window cleaning company will have to be on the same level as us which is then fair competition.

Incredible, while waiting for my Indian takeaway I was reading the Glasgow newspaper where I see there is now 20 enforcement officers to people on the spot £60 fines for dropping litter. Good idea but what about an enforcement officer to catch the 300+ window cleaners in Glasgow working without a license.

And Glasgow was the first to introduce it ???

They are also happy to loose out on £33k+ revenue a year !!!
