inland revenue inspection

do any of you have inland revenue inspection insurance any recommendations insurer wise
has anyone had an inspection if so how much did it cost you in accountant fees anything the inland revenue picked up that was particularly relevant to us window cleaners.

I was talking to local business woman today who has had 3 inspections, said if she had not had insurance would have cost her £4000 in fees each time (only a small company too)

If you join the Federation of Small Businesses you get cover against inspection from the inland revenue.

We've only been a member for two months but basically they said they are there to help in legal matters, staff problems etc. As a member you can download contracts of employment etc from the website although I haven't had time to have a good look yet.

Absolutely.  I've not been a very active member but I've learned plenty from it.

joined the federation of small business yesterday. Here are some of the benefits free business banking for life with the co-op bank, if you dismiss an employee contact them they talk you thru if it goes wrong and you have followed there instructions they fight the case at tribunal and if you lose they pick up the tab. insurance for all accountancy fees if you have an inland revenue inspection. (average time an inspection takes is 18 months, inspectors aim to take money from small business's in 80% of inspections, and just to assist the inspectors are on a bonus system) there is also a 24 hour business solicitor service to answer any legal questions regarding your business. That is a proper solicitor on the phone. with at least 5 years experience in business law. Health and safety advice too. there are 2.5 million members in the uk great value at £140 per annum for a business with up to 4 employees.
I wish i had found them years earlier.

I know someone who has just been investigated and after 14 months the revenue, cleared him and said that all was in order. The accountancy fees came to over £2000.00 and his accountant is now trying to get the IR to reimburse the fees.......I wonder how long that will take!!!! My accountant doesn't offer his own insurance (some do). So joining the FSB seems like a very good option... thanks.

I was under investigation from the inland revenue from November 2005 to December 2006.

It never cost me a penny for useing my accountant. I attented the many interviews with the taxman on my own. I asked my accountant for advice free of charge.

The best advice he gave me was as long as you dont agree with the taxman he cannot charge you anymore tax,penealtys or intrest. If you cannot reach an agreament with the taxman he will tell you he his bringing the investigation to an end and you have 30 days to appeal. It then goes to a tribunial of three people are not from the tax office The tax inspector will very rarely let it go that far because they often dont win and will make a compromise deal.

With intrest I paid £200 extra. They wanted an extra £7000.00 during the investigation.

If your accounts are fine. dont waste your money.

And those other 3 people are from different walks of life ie not the inland revenue and very rarley tend to side with the revenue so my accountant tells me.
