Jim,

My brother in law uses one for his coffee van and loves it, but problem is when they break down the parts are expensive. He has just had to fork out £600  ???

Good vans and a nice drive. Services and parts no more expensive than Vauxhall. I think they're one of the best looking vans too.

A mate of mine always ran VW Transporters, 2 were due for change & because the Vito's were cheaper he had 2 of them.

Never again he told me, he outed the Vito's before a year & replaced them with Transporters.

He runs 7 Transporters so i guess he knows what he is talking about.

I'm glad someone asked this question as I'm thinking of buying a vito next week.

Macc - why didn't your mate like the vito?  Was it mechanical issues or electrical?

Mechanical was his real grip, transmission went on one. The other was build quality, the Vito is not as robust as the Transporter. The other was the drive, i must admit mine is great even fully loaded, pulling power, cornering & braking.

He does rate the new Transit, hes had one of those on loan for 2weeks & hes thinking of one of them, he reckons they are comparable but the Transit is a lot less. I've seen it & the cab of the Transit is loads better.

Hope that helps

cheers mate.  I'll take a few vans out for a test drive next week and make a decision then.

Ask them for a loan of a van for a few days so you can test them out.

I run a Vito on a Y plate, it has done 159000 miles and still drives ery nicely, had to have 2 new wheel bearings at 140 quid a time, other than that only window wipers which are a bit pricey as you need to get them from Merc or take the sprayer off and lash it to a cheap blade fron Halfords.
