Haven't done any carpet cleaning for just over a week and threw the hoses in the back of the van for a job this morning and noticed a damp smell which was coming from the hoses. I guess I must have left some water in them last use. Went ahead and used anyway but smell still seems to be coming from them.
Anyone got any tips on the best way to clean the hoses and what to use. Thanks

Attach the hoses to the machine but not the wand. Put some deodorizor into a 2 litre measuring jug and fill with water. I use prochems odour fresh. then put the vac hose into the jug and swith on the vac till all the solution is gone, even water and fairy liquid in a bucket will do the trick. Hope this helps. Mark.

Dip a hamster into some Febreeze, then make it crawl inside the the length of the hose.

I always suck the clean tank empty with all the hoses I have used on the job, this seems to keep the smell down and also stops the crud buildup in the tank. the Saturday chores of cleaning the machine finishes with said rinse through with deodoriser which also does the waste tank.

You could have a partial blockage in the hose. This could be some fluff snagged in there or it could be something like a needle or pin which has lodged in sideways and started to collect fibrous debris. You may need to pass a very long pole through the hose or a nice, round heavy stone or similar to detect any blockage.  Worst case scenario is a blockage you can't clear, so cut the hose, remove blockage and use a joiner.

Great, thanks for the replies guys. Daughter won't let me use her hamster, so it will have to be the deodorizor in a bucket method.
I do normally empty cleaning solution tank with hoses to rinse through and haven't notice the damp smell previously even when left for a week or more when on holidays, etc. So it may be possible as Ken says that there is a partial blockage or debris stuck in the hose.
