HELP!!
« on: January 26, 2007, 03:50:55 pm »

I have been ask to price the place below up. Never quoted for anything this high before.

Not sure how often they want them doing but i will guess every 3 or 6 months.

The windows have not been done for a long time and every pane has a vent above it.

Can you more experienced guys that clean these types of buildings give me an idea of pricing and which route to take to clean the place?

Many Thanks
Stuart

i dont think the stairwell tower can be done wfp because i dont think you would get a goosneck long enough so this would have to be cleaned usin a cherrypicker, also the front of building is simalar due to the grills etc so the only part that would be wfp would be the back, depending on amount of space due to traffic and parking it may well turn out being a very early morning job, but if you put one man doing wfp part whilst another used the cherrypicker i think it would be done easily in the morning thats outsides only ofcourse ,i hope this helps

looks a nightmare to me,all those grills, balconys etc, think i would run, looks a big job for anyone on their own with no expriance of useing a cherry picker.i suppose if you could gain access to the balconys you could clean those windows trad, and the rest wfp,but like you said, dont think you can wfp the stairwell tower

"Run, Forest, Run!!!!"

Seriousely.  All those balconies, bars and the stair windows fancy frame!!!!!!

The back seems not bad.  Plus, if you don't normaly clean that high, then your going to have to buy a pretty expenceive pole as well!!!

wouldent touch it with a barge pole never mind a wfp, back is easy but the time goin in & out of the balconies would all have to be chargd for,the stair well would cost a fortune with a cherry picker,if you can still get near the glass with the bars in the way,
if you are really interested charge well very well, if you dont get it there will be better jobs coming tomorrow,

Ionics do a very long gooseneck which you could use on an ergolite pole to keep the weight down. I have tried using a  very long gooseneck on high jobs like yours shown in the pics but it is very difficult to keep the brush head flush to the glass because the brush head is hard to control simply because of the the length of the gooseneck itself. In my opinion you would be better off hiring a cherry picker.

that is actually a pretty simple job to do.

First part would be to pole the recess area next to the stairwell  then poler moves onto the side and back of building...straightforward pole work.

When poler is out the way doing side and back, the cherry picker is used to do the stairwell and top windows at front of building (may as well use the picker while its there)...this would be done in an hour or so from a cherry picker.
While that is being done, someone has accessed the building and trads the balconies...simple stuff.

3 cleaners would do this in 3 hours tops.

if youare using a cherrypicker you will need an ipaf licence as the firm may ask if you are qualified , i used these cherrypickers for years before obtaining my license but was taught by someone with loads of experiance, when i went for my licence i was amazed how little practical use of the machine was needed to obtain a licence to use machines that reach a massive height infact i thought it was dangerous to give some of them on my course a licence.
this seems to happen a lot now courses and training for everything so that a certificate can be flashed about proving we are qualified when in reality a person with a lot more experience but no certificate would not get the job but could probably do it better and safer.
so my advice is certainly go for the job and obtain a licence but try and see if there is someone you can work with for a day who uses cherrypickers and learn of someone with experience its amazing what you will learn that a course wont show you and might even save you causing some damage.
