I'm a newbie, how to do that dreaded first clean
« on: December 31, 2006, 08:30:30 pm »
Hiya fellas, and girls if there are any

I am completely new to this game and have got myself about 40 customers this week and will be starting the windows in the next couple of weeks after i have quit my other job.
What are the first things that you do when turning up at a house to do the windows. A step by step noddy guide would be really appreciated. Also how would you guys reccomend cl4eaning the windows, is there a set way of doing it. Any advice at all would be massively appreciated.

Thanks everyone and have a good new year

cheers

Ben

Ask for a cup of tea....wet the windows....squeegy them off....get your money.... and off to the next one.

Sorry Ben...

When i started all i done was get me ladders off making a bit of noise (because i dont bother to knock first) and start cleaning and i made sure i done the best i could do.
Dont know about you but i clean all the frames aswell and i took my time doing it aswell but as time went by i got quicker and quicker.
When i first started i didnt have anyone teach me i learnt it all by myself and with the big help or this forum.
My first house was a 3 bed detached and it took me 1 hour for £12 and now 2years down the road i do it in 20 mins.
It just takes time.

Cheers

As a newbie here also...my only advice would be to .....take your time, do the best job you can, if in doubt about a window, do it again....and above all enjoy it

...window cleaning can open so many avenues....

Cheers
Dave.

In the average house there are 3 sets of windows to get spot-on:

1) The living room
2) The master bedroom
3) The kitchen

The others need attention too but (for example) don't spend 20 mins getting the Velux in the attic pristine when chances are Mrs Smith seldom goes up there.

And as Bazz says, don't worry too much about speed for now. His example of 1hr becoming 20 mins comes with experience. Like any job, once it becomes routine you naturally speed up.

Hope it works out.
