just a short topic
i have a grace 5020 which i have had about 9 months, cheap but effective, until now. Used today only for about 1 hour and pump stops, as i was half way through job i took off front panel and pump was really hot, after 30 mins with cover off worked fine until hot again. This machine does not get used much so a bit stumped

I had the same problem, the cause was I was putting hotter water than the pump could handle in the tank, so the motors thermal overload swithes of until pump cools.

Hi Simbo, I say same as Nevil, I have a sabrina machine and had the same problem! I bought an inline heater and now it works fine because I can now put cooler water in.

They don't make pumps like their use too. Pumps would last a few years, now in the bin in a year, think I will get rid of my cheap shurflo and get something better.

Try Woodbridge,you should be able to pick up a replacement shurflo 135psi pump  for £99 plus the dreaded.

If you are using hot water straight out of the tap,it shouldn't be so hot as to overheat a pump.
I have a sabrina for small difficult jobs and have never had a prob with the pump overheating,they should be ok for temps of 50-60 degrees,normal hot water.
You say you have had the machine for 9 months,was it new if so you should be able to get a repair/replacement pump under warranty.

I have a grace and have had the same problem a few times.

What i do now is put warm water in the tank and I have an inline heater followed by a V2 steamate.
I notice a big differance now with good high heat on the dirty carpets.

The inline heater on the graces are ok but by the time the solution hits the carpet it's barley warm.

The pumps do get very hot and they are packed into a tiny space with no cooling fan it's no wonder they dont last long. I'm on my third pump in just over two years and it's not like the machine is out every day working hard.
But value for money you cant beat them plus the beauty of a huge tank.

Maybe you have been unlucky rs, I have also had mine for two years and it hasn't missed a beat apart from the overheating. And it has worked very hard, not been serviced.I am in the middle of upgrading to a 250psi pump. The housing is very small as you say so modifications  are needed to acomatate the larger pump.
( Craftex have told me it can't be done but I love proving people wrong ).
