Injury Scheme.
« on: October 30, 2006, 03:49:41 pm »
This is something i have thought about for along time, and basically its like an injury fund which we all payed in for example £5.00 a week.

And if any of us had an accident or gets injured in anyway at work and it can be proved genuine then the fund could provide a wage whilst the person gets better, even if its say for example £200,00 a week, at least it would be better than nothing and i,m sure it would make a big difference to someone who was unable to earn for a while.

I no most of us are covered with insurance but i can tell you by first hand experience that most of it is a load of b######s and isnt worth the paper its written on.

How it would work i dont no but i,m sure one of you lot out there would probably get your head around it, and would it be a good idea or not what do you think fellas would it be of benefit to us or not.
A bad days fishing is better than a good days work !

Nice idea but who is going to underwrite it?
Sods law either someone will claim on it in the first week when the funds aren't there or (2) at some point there will be a mass claim which again could drain the fund.
These things are best left to the insurance markets, and as such the idea would need some form of management company to run it anyway.
The trade associations have these running, have you tried them yet?

When does it kick in? After one week/two weeks/a month, or what?
It's a game of three halves!

This would be something i would also be interested in after having an injury at work and ended up being off for three years unable to work.

And the thing is with being self employed if you are off any longer than 8 weeks i would expect you would lose customers.

I always like the idea of a a fund managed by window cleaners to pay out if you get injured but i think the guys are right its too difficult to manage.

Another idea that might work better is having starting a list of where people live and are willing to cover your work if you have a bad accident. That way if you are going to be off work for a while they can cover your work for you and take something like 2/3 to 3/4 of the cash meaning your work gets done and you still get some money in.

The reason i think that this could work as a lot of window cleaners that i know only work up to 4 days a week so have spare time that could be used on a temp basis.

n e way just a thought

To manage a financial fund I believe you would need to be a registered company and be a member of a financial institute.

I think it is far more complicated that it seems, although I agree, its a good idea!

Thats a brilliant idea! I'm certainly up for it.... insurance companies can pay out, but they cant help if you lose customers while injured, so I think that would be a great help. I fell off my ladders for the 1st time yesterday, and it really made me think about how much business I'd lose if I'd been injured.  Maybe we could start some sort of window cleaners register??  :)
