All I can say is...............PLUMBERS, ROOFERS, MECHANICS ETC ETC ETC have been on ROGUE TRADERS BBC1. WINDOW CLEANERS I have not ever seen on this programme. It's a shame that people have this point of view. Most of the people in my area are cleverer than you're average PLUMBER  ;D

It's not "more professional" to have a van...  ;D

In that case I'll get a 44 ton artic.
Then I'll be more professional than you.

How professional you are is rated by how professional the quality of your work is.
Stick to doing it by hand and you'll be more professional.

Thats funny!!! This thread started off talking about untrustworthy people and was including window cleaners in that category.....

Andy kindly stuck up for us and then, Some cowboy trad cleaners hijacked the thread and started have personnel chats!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

squeaky you are wrong mate, and right... it is about doing a professional job....

but if i was a solicitor, would you hire me, if i was squatting in a boarded up house. and i didnt smell very good because i had not had a shower for 2 years?..

the whlole thing is far better if you can be professional and come across as such...

and i now feel lots better driving up very posh streets in my nice gleaming white van, as opposed to my rust bucket before...

anyone on here who says a vehicle is not important  are wrong!.... if you say that then you would have to say image is of no importance to you ?

thats a mistake.

The news report refers mainly to estate Agents, half the people interviewed wouldn't trust letting them bring a stranger round their house while they were out.
Likely, only a small percentage of that half don't trust their windowcleaner.  Let's face it we all know a few w/c s we wouldn't trust.

We recently (two weeks ago) had a plumber and his mate in to fit a combi boiler.  It took ruddy ages just to find a plumber who'd return our phone calls and I tried to get three quotes, but only ended up with two because one didn't turn up at all.

The guy I picked had short hair and a shaved chin, wore a uniform and was polite (called me Mr Simpkin) and seemed thoroughly professional.

It took two days to fit and on the second day we left him and his 'mate' alone to get on with the job.  At the end of the second day they were shattered and didn't finish till 8.00 pm, and I had to smile when I heard them both 'bitching' at each other over triv; tired obviously.

But the job was spot on.  No problems.

If you dress smartly, shave; look non-aggressive and clean cut, and give a professional image; you will receive trust.

Many of our customers have left us to clean the insides of their houses while they've went out; no problems.

Totally agree Tosh.

I have several large Mansion/Stately Homes that not only are we trusted to clean unsupervised but are security keyholders on 3 of them.

All my guys wear company uniform, carry photo ID cards and are registered with the Local Police. It earns you so much trust and professionalism its incredible.

I've got a few customers I wouldn't trust either. And the bad debts to prove it. Dai
