Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone can recommend a good rug cleaning course?

Did a job on Friday and customer asked if I could clean some rugs he had rolled up in the garage. One cost £1300, another £1000 and a third £750.

After telling me how much they cost I said I'd get back to him!

I've done carpet and upholstery cleaning courses but thought adding a propper rug cleaning course to my training would give me the confidence to attempt quality expensive rugs.

Anyone recommend a good one?

Hi Jason, we have been getting a large number or requests for rug cleaning lately and like you would like to attend a course to give us confidence to clean them rather than turning the work down. Could you let us know if you get any info regarding courses. Also as we are local to you (Beccles) could you tell me where you source your chemicals locally if there is anywhere.

I think Alltec do a half day course and a more extensive one from time to time.

They seem to have more in depth courses, than they have had in the past

I done the Alltec course a couple weeks back
And its ok, its worth doing but not the best course in the world, imo you wont walk out of there with the confidence to take on really expensive rugs if you aint got it allready.

Its a half day introductory course with a few good tips but not much more.

Paul, I was interested in how you clean but sent an e-mail and sadly havent heard back from you. How do you clean? For if its different than I do I would be interested to see how you do clean. Please let me know, either on here or on the e-mail, best, Dave. Also, where is it we need to travel too?

I've a spare copy of Kayam's An Introduction To Oriental Rugs if you want it. It's not about cleaning but about the history, types, construction, what the motifs mean etc. I can teach you the cleaning basics over a cuppa!

Cleaning is easy, it's making sure you can clean them that is hardish!
In other words the pre-inspection/identification and testing.
If you saw how rugs are washed in the river with a yard broom where they are made and then the donkeys walk all over them, you would not worry.

They are doing half day course in Oct but at present 2 day course is not scheduled .
