Why do away with ladders ? I thought that`s what our job is all about - risking our lives countless times a day for a few quid. I`m also looking forward to getting bad knees. Or all we getting soft ?
It`s going to go the way of other industries. We no longer send children down the mines or up chimneys, instead we use expensive machinery or so called safer methods. I bet the kids did a better job.
   Ladder-less window cleaning.....whatever next?
The abolition of slavery? The vote for women? Decent Scottish goalkeepers?

I spoke with a long time WC yesterday on the ladder WFP debate and asked his advice which way i should go and he's firmly in the ladder camp, although he has mates who use poles.  :-/

I told him about the forum on the net regarding the subject and he simply dismissed it and said "look mate if you got a pulse you can clean windows"

well i used ladders for over 15 years and it was the only way of cleaning windows but when i got my system it was the best thing to happen to my working life, you can go for bigger jobs.. so lots more money (big contracts), you get TOTAL peace of mind for you and your Family and they do say that one day most window cleaners in some form or other will have a WFP so my  advice is get in now with the big contracts.

Fall off a ladder and you may not have a pulse.

Yes good point Gerry!

I think the sticking point with people is the initial outlay for equipment?

If a complete pole system was the same price as a ladder, bucket etc the debate would be minimal.

But as you say if you fall off and break your neck,a couple of grand is a small price to pay!

Its not that much. I have priced it up at about £1300 all in.
The question is, some people will have you believe you can clean the windows quicker with a pole. If this is true, and I stress the word if, it will pay for itself.
The problem I have is with my wife who says the average Mrs housewife won't go for it. She believes people pay to have their windows cleaned properly and a pole doesn't have the same impact in the customers eyes.

well i cleaned the window on a small block of flats with my pole and timed it, then i got a suby window cleaner with a ladder to do the same block and i was twice as quick.

It is obviously quicker to clean windows with a WFP, but no way is the overall finish as good in my experience.
