Preparing for Winter

I currently have a 650 litre un-insulated tank in my van and am trying to prepare for the winter.

My thoughts were that if I insulated the tank then I could still get problems with water freezing in my pump and hoses so possibly a small electric heater - set to frost free (similar to those used for greenhouses) would be more beneficial as everything would be protected.

What are your thoughts?

I have used a small electric fan heater as you have said for 3yrs and never ever been frozen. Even when out working.

I think it coast £15 from Argos.

WINTER WISE - WINTERISE    It will soon be Sept then the nights will draw in, and no time to mess about just enough to go out and earn a crust. So NOW is the time to winterise EVERYTHING. Below freeezing overnights not too bad its the days and weeks when it stays below during the daytime that does the dammage. It also depends on the climate where you live.
Personally, I have a paraffin back up for the van as well as a frostat elec. heater. Arrange for it to be possuble to take everything in the house if it gets bad. I have a saddle valve fitted inside the house ready to make water if I need to move the RO  from the garage. Dont forget the waste water pipe can also freeze. I also have a few 20 litre containers inside by a radiator, it helps to have slightly warm water when you start.
Coats, fleeces, boots, ski suits are great. etc . Dont foget a winter service on the vehicle now, as well and avoid the rush.
Salt in the car to sprinkle on the pavements.

i move my RO to the garage, water butt still outside and around the house, the waste just runs down the drive into a drain

on real cold nights i just stop production

allways move your pump box inside
