could it be that now they are your own jobs you are working to a higher standard therefore taking longer over each job?

40 houses a day!!  Come on!! If you worked from 8am - 5pm that's 540 minutes    without any breaks. That means you're doing a house every 13.5 minutes to do 40 a day. Not allowing for any travelling or setting up time..I'm sorry but I find that completely impossible to achieve if you are doing a 100% job on every house.

Even to do 20 day you are only spending 27 minutes per house including travel and setting up. Are you Superman!!

wfp - easily do 30/40 houses a day - have done 62 in one day (in the summer, started 7.30am and finished 7.30pm)

trad - lucky if you do 25 houses a day.

40 a day  ??? must be small houses ;D I'm happy with 10 a day between £10-£20 per house. ;D Must earn a fortune :P

Are the houses you do farther apart than the ones you did before? Compact round = less travelling time = less fuel = more dosh!
It's a game of three halves!

the day that I done 62 I was working with the trailer system, I use 100m of 8mm on the reel and that day consisted of 3 cul-de-sac's all beside each other and one stretch of road linking those 3 to the last (4th) cul-de-sac which has 14 houses (of which I do 13).  Access to all houses apart from 3 of them is good, the 3 in question had left the gates open for me that day also so again I had no problems with them.

I was out for 12 hrs, had half an hour break at lunchtime and another half hour at around 4.  So in all 11 hrs work = just over 10 mins per house.  Bear in mind that only 5 of them are detached and the rest are semi-detached and of these there are only 2 different house styles making them very routine and ultimately easier and faster to do (15ft pole reaches everything apart from 4 wndows on the whole run).

Granted it was a hard day but considering the semi's are all £6 and the detached are £12, £15, £8, £22 and £14 the total for the lot is £353 thats not bad for 11hrs work.

Finally the last 4 hrs was a bit slower with me tiring a bit, mustn't forget that one of the lads brought me another 400ltrs of water at lunchtime (brought 600 in the morning).  Used about 900ltrs all day.
