Not really if you want a bit of warmth, frost protection and supple hoses. Mine is on for about 5 hours over a 12 hour period. 2KW element costs 68p per hour at today's capped rate. So about £3.50 a night.

If you use a 1KW then leave it on all night, a 3KW about 3 hours.

I have a 3kw in a 500 upright tank, in winter with the lower ambient temperature of the water, 3 hours wouldn’t be nearly enough, unless of course you have some warm  water left over from the previous days work. From a low ambient temperature I leave mine on for 7-8 hours, 32p/kWh so under £8 per night for me.

£40 a week (5 days). Wonder how that compares to the amount of diesel spent on the hot water systems.

Once the cap is removed, it’ll be a lot more.

But, if you are used to cold water and are frugal you would only use it during the coldest spells. Mine will be turned back off again next week so effectively cost nothing again.

I could be wrong but I think the 9kw uses just over a litre of fuel per hour flat out.

Bang on. My 500 tank with 3kw element requires 7 hours for any 'meaningful' heat! You're looking at £7 -£8 per night to make it useful. Still worth it if it gives you a days work though.👍

On my regular work I just look for anti frost and supple hoses. This last week I have only gone out with about 300 litres a day so adjust the heat accordingly.

If it was just above freezing outside with no need to slow down for sweeping or salting or tradding and I wanted 500 litres warmed up for normal flow rates over a longer time I would leave it on longer.

On the rare occasions I want hotter water at the brush then it would stay on for about 12 hours.
