food for thought on backpacks
« on: July 15, 2006, 07:09:13 am »
guys we know wfp in commercial is no prob but when it comes to domestic then that is another dilemma

we use backpacks but the water suppy is limited as we carry 12 litres instead of 20 litres to reduce weight on the back, I place a container on the sack trolley and use that for top up, but again the water supply is not that great and you need to keep topping up.

so thought about this -- backpacks are coming in from the usa and getting cheaper all the time, what about a cart with say about 3 or 4 backpacks in a pull trolley and instead of topping up you just transfer the backpack and carry on cleaning, would the time saved fulign up offset the cost over the year say
would the backpacks not give you backup as well if one broke down

just food for thought any views greatly appreciated
enclosed pic of trolley I was thinking about

The trolley looks a bit heavy and awkward. What about steps?

Good idea though ;)

I've been thinking recently that if you take the gubins out of a backpack and put them onto a lightweight sacktruck with the pump drawing water from a 25ltr container you could have a very lightweight system.

 Hi
If you use the trolley you could surely keep 25lt cans on it as you can get at least one house from each back pack fill you do not need to worry about steps ect as you need only take it on the raod and just pour into the backpack doest take that long does it and what about people stealing the trolley or the backpacks a lot money to lose? would you not be better off with a 300 lt tank in escort or is it the hoses you dont like pulling around. I dont know why you use back packs and trollies only I only use the backpack for a few terraced houses.

You can buy the same small pumps and batteries as used in the backpack to fit straight to a 25lt can fixes on to the lid I think if you drill it out and put a plastic hose like a pole hose down to the bottom of the can
I have a backpack as well but think a trlley might be better but it is the fill up time from the van tha is slow I looking at putting in a male connector so it can fill as I drive
I have just found some really good looking trolley bases as well, not sack barrows handles come off could be good for small vans and cars

We have things called 'backfiets' here in Holland (as below)....could be usefull to get the old gear around, some people even put engines in them.

Cheers
