Wind
« on: May 05, 2021, 08:04:54 am »
Hi Guys

I’ve unusually had a few complaints recently(prob 2 or 3 in the last few months after not having any for years). The general problem being water dried with  drip marks. I am almost certain that each time it was a windy day (yesterday was particularly bad here in the south and had to go back and re clean a window).

What advice do you have for windy days? When that wind is howling straight on the glass the water obviously dries too quickly! Is it just one of those things? Aside not working in the wind what else can one do?

Thanks in advance.

We stayed home yesterday because of the wind like you I don’t really get any complaint s, but in Essex yesterday With the wind I would have expected all the windows would have been covered in dust/debris after cleaning them, also can be dangerous was a few reports of trees fallen and roof tiles plus fences on all the local FB pages.

For serious problems with wind I would look at adjusting my diet.

Seriously though, I do not think it is a matter of water drying too quickly, more likely the wind blowing back water from the sills etc, which probably contains dust/dirt.

You could try going over the sills with water flow off as soon as you finish cleaning the window to brush away excess water. For me though if it is that windy I would probably take the day off.

It comes down to experience -

If the wind is blowing and the water on the window is travelling up its time to stop !

I also change how I clean certain buildings depending on the way the wind blows

This has also been my experience.  Usually once the water starts flying back up off the window ledge onto the windows I pack up.
I can work on much windier days on WFP than I could with ladders though.

I was conscious of the wind yesterday and aware it might result in a call or two. None materialised.

However it’s wet now so I have a decent reason for the glass being crappy after yesterday’s clean. Happy days 😀

We loose more days to windy conditions than rain we are right on the coast so get a lot of high winds , my experience is that the wind blows the water up off the sills onto the glass again causing dirty marks , when this happens it’s time to pack up and go home .

Spend a little longer with the rinse water at the bottom of the glass when rinsing so it doesn't dry before cascade of water dries when reaching the bottom of the panes and wipe off sills so water isn't blowing back up on the glass.

If the rain is blowing sideways back on the glass it's time to call it a day as dust and dirt gets blown on the glass defeating the purpose of cleaning them.
