One off(pretend) regular enquires
« on: September 06, 2020, 11:56:31 am »
Had loads of enquires recently and as soon as you ask the frequency they are very vague. My way of solving is to get them to sign up to GoCardless and inevitably they don’t! Surprise surprise. Why can’t they just say they want a one off? Baffles me

I give them a 1st clean/one off price, a 6 weekly price & a 12 weekly price.

Because they want a one off and don't want to pay a one off price, a more experienced messer would just tell you what you want to hear and then cancel later that day by text.

If you e been doing this job long enough you should
be able to sniff em out ask the right questions get the wrong answers, depends on what type of property it is first thing I say if it’s a big place is you are renting aren’t you I thought I saw it up for rent, when you say that make sure you are looking them right in the eye if they scratch their head or look away I say I’m to busy 😂 good old body language.

price them up as a one off then if they wont commit to a regular clean.........dont forget your untested......you might be a rubbish cleaner...they might want to try you out first...... ;D

i always ask if they want a one off or regular clean on first point of contact so i can adjust my pricing.....normally i charge more for a first clean anyway but even more if its a one off.....
price higher/work harder!

As above ^

Charge more 1st clean,

If that’s all it turns out to be, so be it.
Annoying yes.

But you can’t win a coconut 🥥 every time!

Recommended customers are what you need to avoid this

I don’t really subscribe to the whole “trying you out” perspective.

I think if someone wants a regular clean, that’s what they will ask for. If they’ve got a problem with your cleaning then they can address that after the clean.

The amount of people I’ve had that ask “can we have a one off clean just to try?” I tell them it’s then x3 for the price and they always decline (bar 1 or 2 I can think of).

I’m just thankful they’ve been upfront and mentioned a one off clean to get the alarm bells ringing.

I’ve only been stung a handful of times, it’s part of the job though sadly.

I got an enquiry for a one off clean a few months ago and now it's a regular 8 weekly clean....the customer admitted he wanted to see if I was any good as his last window cleaner was rubbish.....he was very happy with my service.....👍.....

I've literally picked up hundreds of jobs  from other window cleaners over the years who are either unreliable, incompetent, bad attitude or all 3.......
price higher/work harder!

Just got one. We did a first clean and scheduled to be done this week.
Just received a text message:

"This is ****** from **** ******. Just to let you know that while we were happy with your service we no longer require our windows cleaned. Thanks."

My response. "Hi *****. Thanks for letting us know. Best regards."

If he was happy with the first clean then it has to be price related. But I just can't be asked. The job required our 40' pole at full extension so if he has found a cheaper price then they are welcome to it.

So I got caught with a pretend regular job as a one off.  Good thing I charged well for the first clean as the 2 off us were there for over an hour (2 hours plus in total.)

It's part of the business we're in.
Call it an occupational hazard!
I always ask a customer 'would you like it cleaned just the once?'
I never mention a regular clean.
That single question usually sorts them out.
If I think the customer is genuine (and don't get me wrong, 50% get dumped over the phone) then I will charge a first clean price and then a regular 8 weekly price. If the custy is happy then I go ahead.
These days I get it right about 90% of the time. Occasionally I get it wrong...but only occasionally!  ;D
"Thank you for calling: if you have a 1st floor flat, mid terraced house, lots of dogs, no parking, no side access, or no sense of humour, please press hold!
For all other enquiries, please press1"

They already know this. This is why they will tell you they want a regular clean.

After the first clean is done we confirm we will see them in 6 weeks. They will knowing confirm this while knowing that they won't be there.

As NWH says;  the best customers come from recommendations.
