Brick cleaning issue
« on: August 25, 2020, 04:20:21 pm »

Hi all,

Anyone some sound advice on removing this form a job?
I think its Efflorescence.

Used some low pressure heated water (Doff) no real joy just making it patchy tbh.

Thanks for any help advice.

Cheers

James

I'm going to stick my neck out here & say that is run off from the render above.

To the left of the downspout at the top of the brickwork it is slightly running down as well, all the other bricks visible look to be quite clean.

Apply brick acid, let it fizz/do its thing, rinse off.

Amended - there is clear run lines down the stone between the bricks & render.

I'm not saying it isn't effervescing but it's too small an area to see if it is a problem on other areas of the building.

To sort any efflorescence problem out you have to eliminate the cause first!  Otherwise When you clean it off it just comes back ;D. Efflorescence needs 3 things to manifest:

Water
Route
Salts

Eliminate anyone of the 3 and you get rid of the Efflorescence. SIMPLES!
