Hi Guys

i am about to start my Gutter Cleaning Business and could have the possibility of cleaning out a very large modern mansion house which has Heat Tracing Cables going along the Gutters.

I was wondering if anybody has come across this before and can there be a problem or will it be ok as i have a Sky Vac 85 and also any idea at what the price i could charge for doing this job?

Thanks for any advice given

Cables in the gutters can be a pain just depends on how bad they are

If the weeds have grown around the cables you will have a lot of 'raking' to do to free the cables as for price how long will it take you ? And what do you want to earn p/h when clearing gutters....

Personally I would err on the side of caution and not take the job on.

We don't have an issue usually with aerial cable running through the gutters but the cable is round and small in diameter. Heat Tracing cables aren't round so you will have more issues. Having a camera would help but I would certainly not vacuum a gutter with this 'blind'.

I would be asking myself what the cost implications are if I damage the cable. What happens if I'm later accused of damaging a cable that was faulty before I cleared the gutters? How do I know the heat trace was working before I cleared the gutters? For me those risks are just too high.

Sounds like a job that would ideally be done by hand off a ladder so you can see and feel what you are doing and be careful.

You wouldn't catch me doing gutters off a ladder though, best to leave it you just know its going to be a ball ache.

if i were you id clear them off ladders...you dont want to be causing any damage......

i hope your investing in a good solid 3 section trade ladder,a ladder stand off and a safety device(like an ankalad stabiliser).....

if you think you will be able to clear everything with a gutter vac from the ground then think again...sometimes you will need to get the ladders off........ ideally you want a small camera  too that you can mount to your pole to check the gutters out beforehand
price higher/work harder!

Best of luck with your new business. If it was me and i was starting out id prob give this job a miss to be honest. Gutter vacs are great but ladders are needed on occasion no matter how good the vaccum.

Thanks Guys for your help i will get the Camera up first and have a good look at the Cables then start Cleaning in a Low setting with the Camera attached as i can see how it is going. If it looks like it is sucking the Cables i will stop and Re-assess..
Cheers
