It usually goes ‘Hi how are you today’
Who are you and why do you want to know how a random stranger is today?

Another one today, ‘Hi we are aware you’ve been in an accident.’ Err, I have and can you confirm who I am? Strangely the line goes dead when I ask them that.

i got a phone call from HMRC today saying there is a warrant out for my arrest and please press 1 to speak to an officer....... ......yes i put the phone down........

My response to this one is:
"Thank goodness you have called me back" said in relief. "Which accident are you asking me about? "

They will try to get back to their script  but they will eventually hang up.

I've also had the hmrc call. I contacted the hmrc with the telephone number.

I reply with 'This is Merseyside police here, how did you get this number? Remove this number immediately from your system'

I have genuinely used that a few times and now I don't receive any calls from people selling things, something tells me they're all linked in some way so saying that a few times will et your number taken off their systems

I've had "Amazon" phoning me at least ten times a day for a couple of weeks, different numbers every time so I can't even block it.

Then I played it out and they ask for a bank transfer to pay the debt off and they will cancel the arrest warrant

I had that phone call yesterday! I just hung up

I had the odd experience recently of having a customer accidently transfer me a ridiculously huge amount of money by mistake. I'm talking many thousands £s. She was trying to move it into a savings account that gave better interest and accidently sent it to me instead.  However, it wasn't straightforward getting it back to her due to all these scammers/fraudsters out there. Had to spend some time on the phone with the fraud department at the bank who helped me through it.

I got a cheque "returned" to me unpaid by the CoOp bank. It wasn't made out to me, and I'd never seen it before.  I phoned the bank and said there was an error, this cheque was made out to a plumbing company 100s of miles away from me.

The lady at the bank was insistent that it had been in my pay in envelope which I'd handed in at the post office. I asked whether they wanted me to return the cheque, she said no, I should give it back to the customer and get them to amend it to be made out to me. After banging my head against the wall for around 15 minutes I gave up.

I googled the plumbing company and gave them a phone to explain what was going on, after hanging up a few times at the crazy jock trying to tell them I had a cheque with their name on it, the plumber eventually listened to what I had to say and I forwarded the cheque onto them.

Who knows, maybe the Nigerian prince has got 100s of millions that he needs to get out of the country.
