My old reel is getting on a bit and I want a reel I can stick a sprocket on to have it as a electric reel..

What do you guys reccomend?

Ive used a pure freedom one which has the side discs and so fastening a sprocket is easy. Just use some spacers to allow the chain to fit on the sprocket and trim the plastic bearing and jobs done.
The two discs are held with metal supports in the centre.  It is a faff, but with patience its very easy.
I think i posted on here somewhere of a vid i did showing how i did it and its with very very limited diy skills, but its been working for a couple of years or so perfectly fine.

Yep a pure freedom one.

I've converted the clover in the past, they are more faff to convert and they don't run as true.

I did a pure freedom one a few months ago and it's much better than the clovers ever were and took me about half an hour to do.

I have a waterworks reel and it’s a great bit of kit,I would go as far as to say essential now.

I have a couple of the original power up add on kits on the cloverleaf reels and although they’re not as tough as the hd or pf reels I still love them and god you can take them out and in the van so quickly rather than be bolted down.
They wear the plastic collars down every 3-4 years but I’m ok with that.
Not sure if powerup still sell them but for £150 or whatever they used to be I’d buy another!

The HD reel is perfect for what we need it for although if the other makes are the same speed with the guides either side so the hose didn’t go over the side I may go for one of those next time round.

Would buy Pure freedom again  far better reel in my opinion

Like I said on mine, and especially in the vid. I aint no brill DIY'er and so i used a small bolt and used two nuts as the spaces.
So, bolt into the sprocket, two nuts (small ones) then into the disc and a bolt to secure. Then build up the reel again.
On the reel, (or mine anyway) they have red bearings which need to be trimmed slightly, mostly so you can erect the reel again. Or thats what I needed to do anyway.

Its the same style/size motor and perhaps even the same sproket that most of us use. Definately the same style chain and thats all bought for around £50. (At the time of building mine, anyway)

I have also a remote to control it now and guide bars to prevent slip off. All DIY and works perfectly sound.
