White spirit on glass
« on: September 20, 2019, 08:03:22 pm »
As the title says, customer has had decorator do windows, rubbed down and then wiped all woodwork and some of the glass with white spirit.  Cleaned this week and some windows look foggy/greasy film over them.  Cleaned 3 of them twice but still not how they should be or how I would like to leave them. Using WFP and water is at 002 at moment so that's not an issue.
Question is, what's the best way to remove?
Any advice appreciated.

Degreaser
We look at them, they look through them.

Thanks for replies, tried a mild degreaser on one window, didn't  have any effect.  Now thinking it might not have been white spirit, seems to have left a thicker film.

you've probably wrecked your brush

white spirit has an oily base to it thats not easy to remove it is water resistant - my first call would be white spirit vinegar and plenty of blue or kitchen towel - or methylated spirit - with of these should break down the white spirit and the towel will absorb it

Decorators should stick to decorating...I would like to call him back and ask him to explain himself.

Are you being paid extra to sort this issue? It never ceases to amaze me how painters, builders, plasterers etc leave a mess behind and say 'oh the window cleaner will sort it'.
I just hope as smudger says you haven't wrecked your brush.

Anything left over like labels, adhesive, cement etc from fitters or builders I don't remove, if asked I say they should have cleaned up after themselves as they're been paid thousands to do the work.

Get the decorator back, it’s his responsibility. I had a customer disappointed in my work because the painter left saying the paint was water based and the window cleaner would easily remove it. The customer never told me this until after I had spent a morning doing the initial clean off ladders as requested. Needless to say the paint is still on the glass! ☹️
