SLX and adding extensions........
« on: June 30, 2019, 12:02:09 pm »
I'm using SLX25 complete with a univalve and a slick connect. When i want to pop an extension or two on i have a problem. Anyone found an easy way to do this before i do some convoluted jointed up system/method ?

Only option I can see is lose the slik and go hoseless
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

When I first went to SLX I bought a 35 but ran it as a 20 and added bits when needed.

I just had a push fit connector (on Alex's recommendation like the one inside the pole at the top to connect the main pole hose to the little stub about a foot long from the brush head) placed about a foot outside the bottom of the collapsed pole. I made sure that the pole cap wasn't too tight to pull off and then parted the hose, slid the other sections on and rejoined.

Later as the pole wore out the top sections wore quickest of course and so I just bought an SLX22 and kept the 35 complete (but added new clamps) for longer jobs.

Now I use extremes. One as a "20", the other is a "47".

When my 47 top sections wore out I put the top three sections from my last "20" in it and bought three new sections to make up another "20".
It's a game of three halves!

I don't use the Slick Connect i use the rectus fitting and sleeve (hoseless) that i got when i started using the uni-valve system 2 years ago and im not sure if the way i do it would work for you as the slick connect looks more bulky.
But I enlarged the hole in the bottom of the extension base section to be able to pass the rectus connector and pole hose through, then before i join the extra sections to the 25ft SLX I make the hose connection as normal.
Then i just slide the extra sections on to the 25ft pole and clamp in position.

Taking the extra sections off is just a reversal of the procedure.

You could buy an extra long length of pole hose that will work with the added extensions and stay with your Slick Connect couplers.

Same as Spruce.
Buy a completely new pole hose and set it up so it works with your extensions.
So in effect you have 2 pole hoses; one for your normal setup and one for your extended setup.

it would do my head in having to add extensions for certain jobs here and there every time their due...best solution is to invest in a high level pole OR dont take on any work over 25ft.....problem solved....
price higher/work harder!

Extensions sound a good idea but in reality it does your head in

I have an slx 18, extreme 25 and for the odd job (maybe half a dozen a month) i use my old clx which must be 32ft or so as has all the extensions.

Anything above that i dont do as its not worth buying a 40ft or whatever for 1 job a month, it would take 5 years to break even on it.

around 10 times a month.....it cost me £850 in a gardiners sale  around 8 or 9 years ago now.itll probably last another 8 years yet!i also use it for solar panel cleaning(i have a few customers who have them cleaned annually)

the rest of my work i can reach with my  25FT main pole......
