Ok so iv had my 4040 hf5 membrane around 16 months now and it was producing 002 when new, now it’s 024.
Tap TDS is currently 134 , not sure what’s happened as that is around 76% efficiency.
My water pressure is 55psi /3.5bar so not the best for even a hf5 low pressure membrane
Doug said it’s because I bought cheap pre filters which could’ve blocked the membrane but I’m not convinced.
Iv read through a lot of threads and the answer seems to be a booster pump, these 2 have been mentioned
https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/051012200/
Which is £120 - max output 61ltr/min
https://www.anglianpumping.com/product/water-boosting-pumps/jet-dp-102m-230v
Which £210 - max output ( can’t see the figures) does anyone know?
Is the Anglian pump worth the extra £90?
Are these pumps plug and play or do I have to wire them up?
Any help will be much appreciated,
Cheers 👍
I'm inclined to go with Doug on this one.
Our water pressure is 50psi and my HF5 membrane will be 7 years old in September and is still producing water at a 97% efficiency. I don't have a booster pump. Our water is also around the 120 - 130 ATM, but I have seen it as low as 79 and as high as 150. Its been like this for the last 8 or 9 years. (My previous r/o was a 450gpd and those membranes lasted 6 years.)
When I first started wfp 15 years ago it was 255 from the same tap.
Prefilters need to be of good quality and the carbon filter needs to be replaced when its service life has expired. Pentair report that their Fiberdyne CBF-Plus is 37800 liters for the 10" and for a 20" 75700 liters; which includes waste and pure. I've seen some cheap carbon filters with a service life of 6000 liters.
Once the service life of a carbon filter has expired it ceases to remove chlorine from the water. Chlorine destroys membranes.
Our water quality has improved over the last 2/3 years. Before that I was replacing the 5 micron sediment filter every month and the carbon block every 3 months. So sediment has been a problem for me but it hasn't affected the life of my membrane.
I also put my hands up and say that I hardly every flush my membrane either.
