Expanding business services - can you advise please?
« on: June 01, 2019, 02:30:08 pm »
Hi all, I'm not sure if this belongs in the general cleaning section but its  pretty quiet over there....

anyway, Im looking at expanding my window cleaning round into an all around general cleaning business. Driveways, fascia, gutters etc.

Did any of you just jump in the deep end and buy the pressure washers etc?

Just wondering the best way to go about it?

Research, research and practice on your own drive n family members etc.  Although, this depends on what level you wish to take it to.
It's also a good idea to follow the general cleaning page and pressure washing pages on facebook as there is a lot of experience on there.

For more specialist cleaning, knowing what chemicalsare best matched to what surface then taking a course can be beneficial.

Rutlands pump is a great company for advice and price on pressure washers etc as well.
All the best, as this is a good way to expand your business.

(take it the wfp has taken off nicely for you now, as well!!)

yeah I will look into things more before i jump into it. WFP has landed some good jobs, but sometimes I get calls for a window clean 20 miles away which is not worth doing. But if it was a fascia clean, driveway, gutter etc....now that would worth doing.

mixes it up a bit as well instead of doing the same thing all of the time...

yes Nik, wfp has made my life a lot easier ;)

thanks for your help, getting me set up. I will never forget that.

Yes been there bought carpet cleaner, pressure washers, gutter vacs etc. Got work for it but realised nothing beats the consistency of a well oiled window cleaning round.

So sold most of it now just stick to windows

I could never get the corolation between window cleaning and carpet cleaning - to me its like chalk and cheese
Anything exterior is worth having a crack at - but as a single operator it's defo harder to make all the add-ons work for you

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

I think the correlation is the "cleaning" part  ;D

I tried it when starting out, did a training course etc but its just wasnt viable for a lot of the calls i was getting. It was mainly 1 room or a couple of rooms which people were wanting doing. When you factor in  travel, setup and pack away time etc then travel to next job a simple 1 small room could take an hour and a half round trip or more. I would have needed to charge £75 per job minimum to beat windows and whilst that might be obtainable in some parts of the country in the area i work its cheaper to buy a new carpet than have it cleaned at that prices.

Oh and its much harder work, you will sweat like you are in a sauna

I suppose I can't say anything back to that, since I fed you the line.
But then, I did the holes and others come and add the manure!

Team effort, I like it  ;D ;D

Has anyone ever done one of the Spinaclean courses? I would have thought this should point you in the right direction.
