Calendar Based View for Work
« on: June 29, 2006, 02:27:01 pm »
Hi all,

I'm just getting together the requirements to add a calendar/diary based view of work to WCP.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this on how this should work? I.e what information should be on the calendar, should it give you weekly, montly or both view etc...

Thanks

Ian

Think that would be a good addition.

I'd rather have weekly and monthly views.

I think having the monthly view also will make it easier and quicker to plan ahead.

As I mentioned in another thread, we use George, but not the diary because it only lists houses/properties in a selected round, whereas what I want to see is when the round is due not the house.  We therefore have our own stand alone simple spreadsheet which gets updated on a daily basis and is printed off on a single sheet on a monday, detailing all the work due or overdue in the coming week.

If anyone is interested in a copy of it then they are more than welcome, email me at ian@lionheartcleaning.co.uk

I think the calendar on  palm os software is the best I have found at the moment. Each job can be scheduled in any frequency, for instance if you put down a job for every 28 days, it will appear every 28 days forever.

Where as georges diary view will only show you that job the next time it is due. This makes it very difficult to plan months ahead.

With the palm calendar it is easy to see what jobs you have on a certain day years in advance if you wanted to, and if you get off schedule it is very easy to update.

Thanks Rob,

Due you think you need to know months ahead what is happening? I was planning on having (in addtion to the scheduling module that we already have on WCP) a screen that shows 5 days from today, each day will have the details of the round and jobs that are due that day.

You can then print this list of as a work list.

P.S Nice webstie Rob

Ian

I do quite a few schools, and they usually ring up in May to book for dates in August (School Holidays).

Also other contracts are done every 3 months, some every 2 months. It can be a nightmare if you don't have the days you have left available in front of you.

Another plus about the palm calendar you may want to consider is that you can print it out on paper and have it stuck on the wall so you don't need the pc on all the time.
