Shurflo says motor up. The stainer should be those coned seat ones with wingnuts. Best practice for any filter (fuel) for example was the bowl underneath. This would save the majority of the contents from spilling over the place when unscrewing it. Especially if it was a petrol filter. This is the one we usehttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-Shurflo-Water-Pump-Inline-Water-Filter-1-2-BSP-Wing-Nut-to1-2-BSP-Male/283024084781?hash=item41e58ccf2d:g:gnQAAOSwCGVX2GHmOur first trailer system had the pump fitted motor side down. They fitted this filter which tightened up correctly with the motor mounted that way.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SHURFLO-PUMP-FILTER-STRAINER-1-2-1-2-IN-LINE-FILTER-255-213/182798515337?hash=item2a8fa3fc89:g:McUAAOSwORVZz5E7

Good idea with the bowl. I put the motor up thinking the connectors are lower so less work if water level low in my tank. Thanks for your input for those that posted.By the way it seems funny that most window cleaning suppliers sell products with no instructions. Just bought two pumps and they arrived just packed in bubble wrap with no paperwork. Good job the info is available on here.
