My customer turnaround has also been larger than usual over the past 15 months - mostly deaths and moving house. Usually, new work coming in replaces it with room to spare, but it's not been like that so I'm having to go out there to top it up.
Since the start of the month I've picked up a couple of commercial jobs - £30 per two weeks and £160 per 6 weeks. Also, some residentials at £15, £22 and £30, all 6 weekly.
The largest of the jobs is sub-contract. Although I'm OK with that, I won't be going into it in the way I once did. There are too many frivolous reasons (or non-reasons) for losing sub-contracted work, and it removes my ability to discuss things directly with the customer. A job can be lost due to someone else having a problem with their customer, and there's nothing I can do about that. I lost about £10k - £12k worth of work in a single year once, and none of it was about anything I did or didn't do. I won't be leaving myself that vulnerable again.
